Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of all engine room machinery, including main engines, auxiliary engines, and associated systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Manage and execute planned maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and minimizing downtime through proactive planning and execution.
  • Supervise and guide engine room crew, providing technical expertise, training, and mentorship to foster a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Monitor and analyze engine performance data, identifying and addressing any anomalies or inefficiencies to optimize fuel consumption and operational costs.
  • Conduct regular inspections of all machinery and equipment, identifying potential issues and implementing preventative maintenance strategies to avoid breakdowns.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including risk assessments, permit-to-work systems, and emergency procedures, to protect the crew and the environment.
  • Manage and maintain the inventory of spare parts and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels and efficient procurement processes.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in preparing and managing the engine room budget, controlling costs, and ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Respond to and troubleshoot any engine room emergencies, demonstrating quick thinking, problem-solving skills, and effective communication under pressure.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections, ensuring comprehensive documentation for regulatory compliance and operational analysis.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Holds a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or a related field.
  • Possesses a valid Class 2 Marine Engineer's License or equivalent.
  • Certified in relevant safety courses such as STCW and specific engine room operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role on seagoing vessels.
  • Demonstrates expertise in the operation and maintenance of various marine engine types, including MAN B&W, Wartsila, or similar.
  • Exhibits strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team of engine room personnel effectively.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with crew and management.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging maritime environments.
