Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain the ship's auxiliary machinery, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency of systems like pumps, compressors, and purifiers.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on all mechanical and electrical equipment within the engine room, proactively identifying and resolving potential issues.
  • Participate in the watchkeeping duties, monitoring engine room parameters and responding promptly to alarms or deviations from normal operating conditions.
  • Supervise and guide junior engineers and engine room ratings, providing training and mentorship to enhance their technical skills and promote a safe working environment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults, utilizing technical expertise and diagnostic tools to restore equipment functionality.
  • Manage the inventory of spare parts and consumables, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage to support operational requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and fuel consumption, complying with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of planned maintenance schedules, coordinating activities with other engineering personnel.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Possesses a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or a related field.
  • Holds a valid Certificate of Competency (CoC) as a 3rd Engineer or equivalent.
  • Demonstrates a minimum of 2 years of sea-going experience as a 3rd Engineer or in a similar capacity.
  • Proficient in the operation, maintenance, and repair of marine diesel engines, auxiliary machinery, and electrical systems.
  • Exhibits a strong understanding of marine engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and electrical engineering.
  • Familiar with relevant international regulations and conventions, such as SOLAS and MARPOL.
  • Demonstrates strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety and environmental protection, adhering to all relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Shows adaptability, able to work in a multicultural environment and under pressure.
