Roles & Responsibilities

To provide technical, practical, and logistical support to the Arts Department, ensuring that Visual Arts, Food Technology, and Drama are delivered in safe, clean, and well-resourced learning environments. The role requires maintaining high standards of hygiene.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and practical support across Visual Arts (2D, 3D, Folk Art), Food Technology, and Drama to enable high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Ensure that all studios, kitchens, and performance spaces are well-prepared, clean, safe, and maintained to high hygiene standards.
  • Maintain inventories of materials, ingredients, tools, and technical equipment, ensuring availability, safety, and proper storage.
  • Conduct regular monthly inventory checks for supplies and ingredients, recording usage and identifying replenishment needs.
  • Support teachers and students in setting up, using, and clearing away resources during lessons and projects, ensuring proper cleaning and sanitation of work areas.
  • Maintain, repair, and coordinate servicing of equipment, tools, and technology in each subject area.
  • Ensure health, safety, and hygiene regulations are followed in all workspaces, including risk assessments, food safety protocols, safe storage of art materials, and compliance with electrical and equipment standards.
  • Assist with displays, exhibitions, showcases, and performances, including mounting artwork, preparing food products for presentation, or supporting stage/set preparation.
  • Provide technical support for internal and external events, including gallery displays, performances, school assemblies, and community showcases.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up, and organize materials such as paints, canvases, clay, and sculpting tools.
  • Manage and track art supplies, placing orders when stock runs low.
  • Ensure safe storage and labelling of potentially hazardous materials (paints, solvents).
  • Maintain proper cleanliness and hygiene in art classrooms, including the safe disposal of waste materials.
  • Support teachers in preparing student workspaces and cleaning equipment after sessions.
  • Assist with exhibitions by mounting, hanging, and demounting student artwork, and coordinating repairs to gallery spaces as needed.
  • Monitor and replenish pantry and kitchen supplies, ensuring perishable items are stored correctly and used before expiration.
  • Carry out monthly stock audits of ingredients and kitchen supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with food hygiene standards, including safe cleaning practices, sanitation of surfaces, and correct storage of ingredients.
  • Calibrate and maintain food technology equipment (e.g., ovens, thermometers, mixers).
  • Assist with lesson preparation by measuring and organizing ingredients in advance.
  • Support students during cooking sessions by guiding proper use of tools and appliances.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, servicing schedules, and equipment use.
  • Liaise regularly with teachers to anticipate project needs and provide proactive support.
  • Report faults, damages, or low stock to the relevant subject lead or Head of Department promptly.
  • Provide guidance and technical support to students during independent or group projects.
  • Take responsibility for continuous professional development in technical, health & safety, and hygiene standards.

Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree, diploma, or technical certification in Visual Arts, Food Technology, Drama, Science or a related field.
  • Training in health, safety, and hygiene (e.g., food safety certification, first aid, lab safety) preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum 1- 2 years experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in working in a school will be an advantage.
  • Experience in managing resources and supporting classroom or performance activities.

Job specific knowledge and skills:

  • Fluent in English communication skills
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and hygiene regulations in classrooms, kitchens, and performance environments.
  • Practical knowledge of cleaning, sanitation, and safe storage procedures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inventory and conduct monthly stock audits.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to aid in daily contact with staff in a diverse multi-cultural environment.
