The Department life sciences, Arabian Gulf University invites candidates to compete for a tenure-track Associate Professor position, in the area of Human Cell Biology, with emphasis on high-density mammalian cell culture. The successful candidate will be a recognized investigator with a PhD or MD/PhD degree and a track record of independent research, demonstrated by high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and extramural funding commensurate with years of experience.
The responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses and/or labs in Cell & Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics. The candidate may also be required to develop graduate course in their area of expertise.
Includes (but not restricted) mentoring and supervision of MSc and PhD students in carrying out their graduate research
To establish a state of the art research and development activity with a tangible innovative potential. Faculties are expected to present results at national meetings and publish in refereed journals.
To contribute to the university community and the department by serving on committees, helping to recruit potential students, and. and providing other services to the GCC community through public consultation, workshops and conferences.
Qualification / Certification Medical graduate with American Board certification or fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
An earned doctorate in Cell & Molecular Biology or related discipline from a reputed university is required; candidate must be qualified to teach courses and/or labs in Cell & Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, and Biology courses.
Five years of experience in fermentation and/or cell culture, including stirred tank and rocking motion bioreactors, and bioreactors for adherent cell culture.
Experience in various bioreactor/fermentation operations and culture modes (batch, fed-batch, media exchange, and perfusion) in bench-scale and pilot plant scale.
Special Knowledge Required
Experience with Hybridoma and cell lines culture for recombinant protein and antibody production
Experience in all aspects of upstream process development including Media Prep, Inoculum Prep, Bioreactor and Harvest activities and Buffer Prep.
A proven hands-on experience in transfection of mammalian cell lines, confocal microscopy, ELISA, IHC and signal transduction.
Candidate must successfully complete the interview process, including a teaching demonstration and a research seminar.
