Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Job Purpose:

To provide expert medical care and clinical management of patients with non-malignant (benign) hematological disorders, such as anemia, bleeding and clotting disorders, hemoglobinopathies, and platelet disorders. The Benign Hematology Specialist supports the diagnostic, therapeutic, and monitoring processes in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, in accordance with SEHA s quality standards and patient safety guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.

Completion of residency in Internal Medicine followed by subspecialty training in Hematology.

Board Certification in Hematology or Hematology & Oncology (e.g., American Board, Arab Board, MRCP with specialization in Hematology, or equivalent).

Valid DOH Specialist License in Hematology or eligibility to obtain it.

Experience:

Minimum 3 5 years of post-residency experience in Hematology, with a focus on benign conditions.

Experience in managing thalassemia, hemophilia, and anticoagulation in tertiary healthcare settings is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Diagnose, treat, and manage patients with benign hematological conditions including iron-deficiency anemia, thalassemia, sickle cell disease, ITP, hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, and other coagulation disorders.

Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, including complete blood counts, coagulation profiles, iron studies, and bone marrow biopsies.

Manage anticoagulation therapy and monitor related complications.

Collaborate with laboratory hematology teams for accurate diagnosis and monitoring.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for complex case discussions.

Support care of both inpatient and outpatient hematology cases, including emergency consultation for hematologic complications.

Document clinical assessments, investigations, and treatment plans using SEHA s electronic medical record system.

Educate patients and families regarding disease management, treatment options, and prognosis.

Participate in continuing medical education, audits, research, and quality improvement activities.

Adhere to infection control protocols, clinical safety standards, and DOH medical ethics guidelines.
