In this interview with Naukrigulf, Ms. Riana Morgan, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist (MENA) at Jenaan Investment, located in the UAE, talks about her professional journey, employment during Covid-19 times, and a little about herself. Here’s what she had to share:
Please share your professional journey with us and how did you reach where you are.
I’m proudly South African and started my career there. I obtained my Postgraduate degree in Strategic Human Resources combined with Digital Marketing and specialize in Talent Management and Employer Branding.
I have experience in various industries from FMCG to, Agriculture and, IT just to mention a few. Before moving to the UAE, I looked after the Africa, Middle East and Duty-Free business at Philip Morris International where I got global exposure and due to that experience, decided to expand my scope and hence took up this opportunity within the UAE.
I came to the UAE a year ago and was introduced to a completely new culture and industry. My current company is working toward food security not only in the UAE but globally. I am humbled and honored to be part of this movement.
This was a good opportunity for me to apply the exposure I had gained to combine the digital space and talent management experience. To give the company I am working for now, an opportunity to enhance their employer branding to become the employer of choice.
Which aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Learning new ways of business and continuous ways to improve the business by attracting the right skill to match our business requirements.
What is the best part about working in your company?
Its diversity and leadership.
What is your favorite way to de-stress after a long day at work?
Prior to the Covid-19 scenario, swimming was my way to relax. I love being outdoors. So now, switching off means taking a walk or going for a jog.
Please share your favorite books or authors with our audience.
I like Marian Keyes, whose work I read for leisure. At the moment I am reading The Power of Now by Eckert Tolle, and it’s probably for the third time I am reading this as it never gets old.
Do you live by any particular motto?
Dr. Myles Munroe, a renowned pastor, once said “If you fall in love with security you will never live a life of adventure”. It is so deep and so relevant in today’s life. We tend to hold on to certain securities and never live a life of adventure, and yet that is what life is all about – living every day to the fullest.
What advice would you like to give to the job seekers who are struggling to find a job during the times of COVID-19?
I would encourage them to persist and continue. In today’s scenario it is emotionally very taxing. People are experiencing various anxieties and different types of stress. The key is perseverance. I know it is easier said than done but just keep being excellent in what you do and trust that this too shall pass.
Any suggestions for jobsites to help them become more relevant in the post Covid -19 world?
Authentication of CV’s. People tend to post their CV’s mentioning certain skills and experience. However, in reality, it is not so. I recommend jobseekers to be authentic in their CV’s and to apply to jobs relevant to their experience. In the long term, it only benefits the candidate. A good effective cover note is always welcomed.
