Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

The Department Chair is expected to lead the department in achieving excellence in teaching, research, accreditation, and community engagement. The successful candidate should have the academic credentials to teach undergraduate courses such as Advanced Programming, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Big Data, and Data Analytics, in addition to a demonstrated ability to lead curriculum development and assessment initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Providing academic and administrative leadership for the Department of Computer Science and Engineering
  • Leading and overseeing ABET accreditation processes and ensuring compliance with CAA standards and requirements
  • Supporting continuous improvement through assessment, learning outcomes evaluation, and data-driven decision-making
  • Teaching undergraduate courses aligned with departmental needs
  • Leading faculty development, mentoring, and performance evaluation
  • Establishing and/or sustaining a nationally or internationally recognized research agenda
  • Encouraging and supporting the acquisition of external research funding
  • Representing the department at the school and university levels, and serving on key committees
  • Advising and mentoring students
  • Promoting outreach activities, industry collaboration, and community engagement

Desired Candidate Profile

Required Qualifications

  • Earned Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence or a related computing discipline from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated academic leadership experience, such as serving as department chair, program coordinator, or in a comparable role
  • Proven experience with ABET accreditation, including assessment, documentation, and continuous improvement processes
  • Knowledge of and experience with CAA accreditation standards and reporting requirements
  • University-level teaching experience
  • Strong record of scholarship and research productivity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and student success
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty and student population
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines
