Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Patient Care
• Serves as a resource person in the units.
• Provides support for Endocrinologist in their care and management of diabetic patients.
• Documents assessment, intervention and plans including recommendations, goals and progress notes.
• Coordinates patient care with other members of the health team and maintains the interdepartmental relationships.
• Promotes and actively participates in a multidisciplinary team.
• Provides ongoing assessment and recommendation to the treatment team and patient /family for adjustments in the plan of care as required.
• Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.
• Ensures accurate assessment, the needs of the department and the patients it serves.
• Manages flow of patients in the department effectively in coordination with the Endocrinologists.
• Assists patient in monitoring blood glucose for the purpose of medication control and adjustment for both insulin and non-insulin dependent diabetics.
• Recognizes, respect and support patient/family rights and promote/maintain confidentiality.

Patient and Family Education
• Provides education related to Diabetes and the disease process, medication, diet and nutritional monitoring, foot care, prevention and care of complications, blood glucose monitoring and techniques of self-monitoring and injection in liaison with Endocrinologists.
• Provides education on treatment for patients at various stages of the disease. The focus is on prevention of complications and management of stable diabetes.
• Evaluates patient comprehension and compliance to the education by reviewing clinical and learning outcome.
• Utilizes specialty knowledge and skills to provide comprehensive and effective health care teaching to the patient/family. Assists in the development of patient/family education materials.

Maintenance of supplies and equipment
• Performs competency in point of care testing and quality requirements.
• Competent handling of all equipment in the unit.
• Ensuring all equipment is maintained in good working order, reporting any fault to engineering.
• Indents unit store supplies and keeps necessary records.
• Prepares unit requirements, stock verification and inventories.
• Prevents wastage and misuse of supplies

Desired Candidate Profile

Diploma in Nursing, Bachelor Degree in Nursing/ Masters in Nursing.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience
  • Specialized nursing skill in teaching, and decision making abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to instill trust and confidence in patients, relatives, Endocrinologists, Physicians, members of nursing and non-nursing team.
  • Certification as a Diabetes Educator/ Post graduation. Qualifications in Diabetes Education.
  • BLS Certificate.
  • Competent with unit specific procedures and equipment.
  • Quality module training
  • Non clinical training
  • Fire and safety ,HAZMAT
  • Valid license to work in UAE.
