General Description of Job:

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the accurate planning of his package and for assuring that the job taken up complies dimensionally and technically with the drawings and specifications. He should maintain all relevant Quality records and contract documents related to his package. He must remember at all times that he is a member of the site management team and has general responsibility for safety, tidiness, quality and the observance of good work practice appropriate to his experience as well as the general commercial success of the project.

Technical Control:

The MEP Engineer is responsible to the Contracts Manager / Project Manager in all matters.

Responsibilities:

1.1 The MEP Engineer must be aware of and enact the safety policy and the company procedures as relevant to his activities. He must ensure that all his assistants are made aware of their responsibilities. In the absence of a safety plan, the MEP Engineer must draw up a safety plan in co-ordination with the safety officer.
1.2 All the site working personnel shall wear personnel protection equipment (PPE).
1.3 Ascertain from the Project Manager / Contracts Manager the company procedures to be used on site.
1.4 Study all the relevant documents i.e., specification, contract, drawings, preliminaries etc.
1.5 Agree plan of action with the Project Manager / Contracts Manager. Prepare method statement with regards to mobilisation and erection. Define areas of storage etc.
1.6 Prepare as necessary programmes of work for section under direct control.
1.7 Agree the process of mobilisation with the Project Manager.
1.8 Establish location and identity of all existing services. Maintain a list / drawing and ensure that installation of works are co-ordinated with the existing services.

1.9 Request and ensure that the main contractor sets out a reference grid and level before commencement of work at site.
1.10 Check documents for client requirements in respect of approval or checking the layout prior to installation.
1.11 Various systems for temporary work to be used on site should be agreed with Contracts Manager / Project Manager. Prepare a checking system by use of checklists. To agree the method statements and the monitoring system of the package.
1.12 The MEP Engineer shall ensure that the office is kept clean and tidy. All measuring instruments are placed in secure storage place when not in use. All drawings / data sheets are registered in and out. The documents and records within the office are clearly identified and filed when not in use. All instruments are checked for accuracy, maintained and kept clean at all times.
1.13 A prime function of the MEP Engineer is not only to take care of line level and quality but to keep a full control on checks / inspection records.
1.14 Establish what existing records, approved drawings etc., can be used as records of verification. Check for additional requirement of records/quality control/forms etc.
1.15 Check the requirement of installation/materials against specification in line with estimator and approved drawings. Reconciliation of materials, Monitoring of wastage well within the standards. Raising of variation queries if any.
1.16 In conjunction with the Project Manager to keep a record of approved samples for the control of works. Preparation of a programme on sample submission.
1.17 To clearly agree with the Contracts Manager / Project Manager the mode and period of inspection based on clients requirement or as stated in Quality Control plan. To co-ordinate and organise accordingly with the quality control engineer.
1.18 To check the material before delivering it to the client against all its requirement with regard to drawing / specification.
1.19 Always think ahead of present and future inter connected activities that will be carried out. Discuss with Project Manager on resolving day to day activities. Review submittal information of the material to be incorporated into the work.

1.20 To comply the requirements of company’s interval procedures.
1.21 Maintain a site daily report.
1.22 Record sketches / details calculations etc., of work done to enable Quantity Surveyor to measure cost incurred to date. Check with target achievements set by the Contracts Manager / Project Manager.
1.23 Maintain charges occurred at site for preparation / submission of as built drawings.
1.24 Record all information given by the design team in whatever form, acknowledgement of instructions etc.
1.25 Provide information, clarification of details by sketches etc., to the site personnel doing the work.
1.26 Float request for inspection well within the time as agreed with the client.
1.27 The MEP Engineer must as a company representative maintain a good appearance and provide a friendly helpful attitude towards our clients / consultants and with all other contracts. Ensure that the site working procedures and specification are closely followed in order to maintain quality at all levels.
1.28 Carry out after duties necessary to ensure the smooth running of the contract by liasioning with interconnected departments.
1.29 The MEP Engineer has to attend site co-ordination meetings with the Project Manager.

Expected Requirements/Skills of the MEP Engineer

1. Minimum in 10 years in Building Services Division Industry out of which 5 years in the supervisory capacity.
2. Efficient in reading drawing/specifications in English
3. Monitor and update the day to day progress of projects.
4. Good written & verbal communication in English
5. Liaise with store and site labour force.
6. To be able to run the site independently and manage the subcontractors.
7. Quality conscious.
8. Safe working practice.
