Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Based at the Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai within the Engineering Department in Dubai, the Duty Supervisor is responsible to support the whole engineering team and to ensure that the engineering and maintenance operations within the hotel, including general property maintenance, are working properly and up to the hotels operating standards. The Duty Supervisor reports to Assistant Director of Engineering.

As a Duty Supervisor, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Fully responsible for managing staff, resolving complaints, ensuring smooth hotel engineering operations, and effectively handing over shifts with proper documentation and briefings.
  • Carry out routine, preventive, and urgent maintenance tasks across guest rooms and public areas, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to guest and departmental requests, prioritize critical issues, and communicate effectively to ensure service satisfaction.
  • Monitor life safety systems, attend firefighting training, follow lockout/tagout procedures, and ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, inventory, and workspaces; manage maintenance requests through systems like HOT SOS; and ensure cost-effective resource usage.
  • Train and support team members, conduct performance reviews, enforce grooming/uniform standards, and comply with all hotel and Mandarin Oriental operational policies and quality standards.

Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum 2 years of engineering studies (Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, or Building Services) and at least 5 years of experience in a luxury hotel environment, including 2 years in a supervisory role.

  • International experience, particularly in the Middle East, along with hotel pre-opening or renovation experience, is considered an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems such as InnComm and BMS is beneficial.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills are essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of Safe & Sound standards and procedures.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deliver high-level customer service independently.
