Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

1. Conduct the Environmental & Social risk assessment and monitoring of the projects & investments, independently from the first line of defence roles by challenging the initial assessment & due diligence conducted by the related business officers (e.g. Corporate / BB Lending and investment officers), as well as approve the E&S risks and impacts of the proposed projects & investments.

2. Resolve the E&S risk related issues with the client that are related to its action plan in cooperation with Corporate/BB lending and investment officers & advise the client on best practices for reducing those risks.

3. Conduct re-assessment of the clients projects in case of new/extended facilities or business activities to ensure alignment and meeting the Bank s E&S risk Management System.

4. Assess the E&S risk categorization & scores of the projects to determine the nature and level of E&S risk investigations, information disclosure and clients engagement.

5. Conduct annual site visits for category A & B clients accompanied by GCR and/or CIB officer, when applicable

6. Monitor closely the projects E&S risk performance in conjunction with the first line of defence (e.g. Corporate & BB Officers/Investment Officers) and enforce E&S action plans with time frame as of part of the loan/financing agreement in case of not meeting the risk requirements.

7. Prepare and analyse the E&S risk management quarterly reports according to the reporting templets prepared by SF team (e.g. number of projects classified as A, B or C, Total project finance loans disbursed, number of rejected cases according to the exclusion list etc)

8. Prepare E&S risk summaries, action plans and reports on site visits for projects to ensure adequate assessment and communication of E&S risks.

9. Coordinate with the Corporate/BB & investment officers to discuss mitigations with the clients in case of deviations during the project monitoring, and prepare modified action plans and amend the loan recommendation in such cases if needed.

10. Coordinate and complete all E&S risk related documentation needed for internal approvals processes (e.g. Credit Approval Memo). which includes documentation on policy checks, environmental and social checklist, scorecard, . etc.

11. Update the E&S Key Risk Indicators.

12. Follow all relevant department policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner

Day- to-day operations

13. Follow the day-to-day operations related to own jobs in the ESG department to ensure continuity of work

Compliance:

14. Comply with all relevant CBE regulations, banking laws, AML regulations and internal CIB policies and code of conduct in order to maintain CIB s sound legal position and mitigate any potential risks

Desired Candidate Profile

Bachelor s degree in business, environmental and social sciences, sustainability or related discipline. Post graduate studies is preferred.

Min. 2-4 years of relevant professional experience gained in the Risk Management, Environmental and Social Site Assessment, Environmental Impact Assessment and Due Diligence according to the international and national standards.

Relevant professional experience in ESG risk in international finance or development institution.

In-depth knowledge of local and international Environmental, Social, Health & Safety regulations and policies relevant to broad range of sectors.

Excellent command of English and Arabic languages

Ability to work on a number of projects and operations at a time.

Advanced PC user (MS Office).

Modelling skills applicable to environmental and socio-economic pillars.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
