Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Cost Estimation: Review project drawings/specifications; prepare detailed material/labor/time estimates; calculate total joinery costs; ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Material & Resource Sourcing: Coordinate with procurement for material quotes; identify reliable suppliers; ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely availability; update estimates based on market changes.
  • Project Analysis: Review plans/specifications; identify project challenges and solutions; collaborate with designers on specifications and cost impacts.
  • Tendering & Bidding: Prepare competitive tender submissions; provide technical input during bidding; handle client clarifications and adjustments.
  • Cost Control & Budgeting: Monitor actual vs. estimated costs; identify cost-saving opportunities; report deviations to management.
  • Collaboration with Production & Design: Align estimates with production capabilities; suggest cost-effective design/material options; adjust estimates for design changes.
  • Risk Management: Identify material/production/schedule risks; include contingencies and buffers in estimates.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends; improve estimating processes; review past projects for accuracy improvement.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed records of estimates; prepare management reports; ensure documentation accuracy and currency.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Education: Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, or related field; certification in cost estimation or project management preferred.
  • Experience: 2–5 years in cost estimation for joinery, carpentry, or construction.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel and estimation tools (e.g., PlanSwift); strong knowledge of joinery materials/processes; ability to read drawings/blueprints; familiarity with industry standards.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical abilities for accurate cost assessment.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure precision and completeness in estimates.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to handle multiple estimates and deadlines efficiently.
