Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, inspect, and repair high voltage electrical systems including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and distribution panels (ranging from 11kV to 33kV).

  • Conduct routine and emergency maintenance on HV cables, busbars, isolators, and protection relays.

  • Perform high voltage testing procedures including insulation resistance testing, hi-pot testing, and power factor testing.

  • Monitor and analyse power quality parameters including voltage, current, frequency, and harmonic distortion.

  • Respond to high voltage electrical faults and emergencies, executing isolation and safe-working procedures.

  • Implement and adhere to Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and permit-to-work systems for all HV activities.

  • Coordinate with relevant UAE utilities for grid connection works and planned shutdowns.

  • Maintain and calibrate protection relay settings in line with approved engineering designs.

  • Perform thermographic scanning and other predictive maintenance surveys on HV equipment.

  • Document all maintenance activities, test results, and defect reports.

  • Participate in annual HV equipment overhaul programs and shutdowns.

  • Mentor and supervise low voltage electrical technicians during integrated electrical works.

  • Ensure compliance with UAE OSHA standards, IEC regulations, and ALTAIF HSE policies.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Valid UAE High Voltage Authorization Certificate or equivalent internationally recognized HV certification.
  • Strong knowledge of IEC standards related to HV switchgear, protection systems, and transformers.
  • Experience with SCADA and energy management systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of high voltage testing instruments and diagnostic equipment.
  • Sound understanding of UAE DEWA regulations and electrical permit systems.
  • Experience with protection relay testing (Siemens, ABB, GE, or equivalent brands).
  • Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and protection coordination studies.
  • Strong HSE awareness and a safety-first working culture.
