Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities frequently must be performed to meet deadlines.
  • Significant conditions are typical concentration on patient’s needs, staff performance.
  • Conducting situation analysis making rapid decisions.
  • On –going contact with hospital patrons and outside vendors.
  • Assists Manager in supervision and operation of the housekeeping department to ensure clean, orderly and attractive conditions of the hospital by performing duties professionally.
  • Assume duties of Manager in his / her absence.
  • Prepares daily work schedule to meet occupancy demands.
  • In consultation with the Manager prepare master lists of general cleaning objects.
  • Prepare staff schedules, vacation schedules and payroll.
  • Inspect and evaluate physical condition of hospital on a daily basis for cleanliness and necessary repairs. This includes IP rooms, public areas, and public rest rooms back of the house, offices, corridors and stairwells.
  • Submit recommendations for painting, repairs and furnishings.
  • Prepare work order requests for engineering to correct deficiencies found.
  • Recommends rooms to be taken out of service.
  • Co-ordinates with IP Cell to ensure these rooms are available.
  • Records rooms in room history record
  • Meet with Manger to establish standards and procedures for housekeeping staff.
  • Plan work schedules according to occupancy ensuring adequate service
  • Select, train and evaluate employees’ performance.
  • Oversee and direct employees.
  • Spot – check IP rooms to ensure standard are being achieved
  • Spot-check work carried out by housekeeping employees to ensure standards are being achieved.
  • Oversee of equipment and daily tasks.
  • Provide employee training in the department policies and procedure.
  • Provide employee operational training to maintain the housekeeping technical knowledge and work protocol.
  • Oversees inventory of rooms, supplies and equipment.
  • Oversee discard of blankets, bedspreads, and drapes in conjunction with linen supervisor and seamstress.
  • Ensure there is a regular programmed for deep cleaning and terminal cleaning of all areas in housekeeping.
  • Investigate patient complaints and take constructive measures.
  • Ensure responsive and efficient linen room and repair services are provided to patients on request.
  • Ensure employees have a high level personal hygiene.
