Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

This role is to encourage and promote a healthy and safe workplace at ADT ensuring compliance with workplace HSEQ standards and assisting the Head of HSEQ in achieving program targets and commitments to the Safety Management System.

To provide best practice workplace health and safety inspectorate services to ADT workplaces and participate in compliance campaigns and enforcement strategies. To ensure compliance of all HSEQ strategies by providing practical guidance and up to date advice to staff, visitors and port user’s


  1. Actively follow and promote the ADT Safety and Security policies and ensure that fellow employees and visitors are doing the same. These policies are to be always followed within the port environment so as to ensure a safe and secure workplace for all.
  2. To carry out scheduled safety inspections as per monthly monitoring programm schedule of work areas, advising supervisory personnel of observed safety hazards, violation of safety rules and regulations, and prepare safety inspection reports for the respective head of department.
  3. Ensure the scheduled inspections occur of all fire and fire alarm equipment and keeps records of inspections.
  4. Manage and audit all risk assessments.
  5. Control the safety inventory in preparedness for accident/ incident response on land.
  6. Works with the security team in using the port CCTV system for monitoring breeches in HSEQ procedures and retains any evidence of bad practices or breaches for further investigation.
  7. Responds to all emergencies in the port and renders guidance and assistance. Responds as an Emergency Team Leader to fire, oils spill or other incidents in the port or surrounding area.
  8. Helps to lead the response until a more senior manager arrives for oil spill or other hazardous materials clean-up and deploys specialist equipment.
  9. Investigates the causes of fires, or other hazardous situations.
  10. Advises departmental managers of appropriate personal protective equipment for workers.
  11. Ensures safety rules and appropriate PPE signage are posted in conspicuous locations, per local law.
  12. Investigates work related injuries, following trends, conducting thorough investigations, and recommending various solutions, including better communications, training, modifications to work methods or equipment, and the like.
  13. Keeps records of all inspections and investigations, for both fire and safety matters.
  14. Assists with training instruction for company personnel in health/safety related areas.
  15. Assists security in patrolling, observing safety and security hazards or violations, throughout company property and premises.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Diploma or higher in a Safety Management Discipline Preferred
  • NEBOSH Certified
  • 6-8 Years of safety management experience
  • Previous Port knowledge preferred but failing that, construction or workshop/heavy industry experience is suitable
