Roles & Responsibilities
An Infection Control Nurse plays a crucial role in healthcare facilities by ensuring a safe and sanitary environment. They are responsible for developing and implementing infection prevention and control measures. These healthcare professionals work collaboratively with all department levels to prevent and manage infectious diseases in hospitals, clinics, or long-term care settings. Their expertise is essential in educating staff, patients, and visitors about best practices in infection control. With a keen eye on detail and a proactive approach, Infection Control Nurses are vital in protecting public health and improving institutional safety standards. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement infection control policies compliant with health standards.
- Conduct regular audits to monitor adherence to infection control protocols.
- Oversee the management and investigation of infection outbreaks within facilities.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to minimize cross-contamination risks.
- Coordinate and lead infection prevention and control training sessions for staff.
- Perform daily monitoring and reporting on infection rates and trends.
- Assess and review sterilization processes for medical equipment efficacy.
- Advise on best practice procedures for infection prevention during patient care.
- Assist in the development of educational materials on infection control for staff and patients.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations concerning infection control.
- Review and investigate incidents of infections to identify source and prevent recurrence.
- Maintain detailed documentation of infection control measures and their outcomes.
Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RN) license with a specialization in infection control preferred.
- Bachelor s degree in nursing or a related healthcare field is required.
- Previous experience in infection control and prevention in a healthcare setting.
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills for effective training and collaboration.
- Strong analytical skills to assess and respond to infection control challenges.
- Up-to-date knowledge of infection control best practices and regulatory standards.
