Purpose

To execute the plan for preparing, seasoning, and cooking of salads, soups, fish, meats, vegetables, desserts, or other foods. May plan and price menu items, order supplies, and keep records of accounts. May participate in cooking.

KRAs

Prepares and cooks foods of all types, either on a regular basis or for special guests or functions.

Supervises and coordinates activities of cooks and workers engaged in food preparation.

Checks the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.

Demonstrates new cooking techniques and equipment to staff.

Determines how food should be presented, and creates decorative food displays.

Monitors sanitation practices to ensure that employees follow standards and regulations.

Arranges for equipment purchases and repairs.

Meets with catering supervisor to discuss menus for special occasions such as parties, and banquets.

Coordinates planning, budgeting, and purchasing for all the food operations within establishment.

Recruits and hires staff, including cooks and other kitchen workers.
