Job Description

The Speech Language Pathologist will plan, conduct and evaluate program for assigned patients designed to improve patient's communication skills. Assess patients with communication problems and Dysphagia typically of Neurological origin, develops a treatment program and modifies treatment in accordance with patient progress. Instruct patients' progress and maintains clinical records according to established procedures.

The Speech Language Pathologist consistently demonstrates support of the SRH statement of Mission and Philosophy by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

The post holder will participate in team meetings, routinely leading audit and research projects. They will plan, deliver and evaluate specialist training to other professional and patients / coworkers on all aspects of Physiotherapy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Evaluate patient's speech, language and swallowing abilities in order to formulate and conduct treatment plan designed to improve communicative efficiency of patients with communication problems. Establish patient treatment goals tailored to each patient's needs and capabilities.

2. Demonstrate competency in understanding the growth and development of infant, child, adolescent, and geriatric patients as measured by specific performance standards and as described by department/unit policies and procedures. Demonstrate the ability to interpret growth and development related information to assure patient needs are met.

3. Review patient's chart, interview patient/family and consult with physicians, and other relevant clinical professionals in order to evaluate patient condition according to standard procedures.

4. Counsel patients, family members/significant others regarding communication deficits and instruct them in proper management techniques.

5. Monitor patient progress, re-establish goals and revise treatment plan as necessary. Alert physicians to changes in patient's condition.

6. Maintain clinical records including writing diagnostic reports, progress reports, discharge summaries, re-evaluations and rechecks, summarizing family and professional contact and logging daily statistics and other clinical data.

7. Attend patient team conferences, clinics, in-service education classes and meetings as necessary in order to gather and exchange patient/treatment information. Keep informed of developments in the field in order to maintain and enhance professional expertise.

8. Adhere to the Code of Ethics established by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

9. Complete successfully the SRH IS training programs and utilizes IS in performing job duties, as needed.

10. Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRH.

11. Participate in research projects.

12. Contribute to the profession through organizational activities, education, research and/or publications.

EDUCATION:
Essential: B.Sc in Speech Pathology (therapy)
Preferred: M.Sc in SPeech Pathology (therapy)

EXPERIENCE:
Essential: 3 years experience minimum
Preferred: 5 years experience or more

CERTIFICATION:
Essential: HAAD License

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Essential: Strong communcation skills in English (speaking / writing / reading)
Preferred: Bilingual (Arabic)

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
Experience in treating swallowing disorders is considered advantageous
