Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

As a Junior Field Protection Engineer, you will be based in Abu Dhabi and work on testing and commissioning of Siemens Protection & Automation systems across the UAE and the wider Middle East region.

You will collaborate with global teams, utilities, and customers to ensure the safe and reliable operation of high-voltage transmission infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Testing & commissioning of Protection and Automation systems for Siemens projects
  • Preparation of SAT / FAT protocols and technical documentation
  • Conducting Pre-FAT / FAT activities with customers for protection panels (AVR, LIBBP, HIBBP, TIP etc.)
  • Preparing commissioning procedures including method statements, work permits and testing protocols
  • Supporting product feedback, approvals, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Delivering technical presentations to customers and stakeholders
  • Performing fault analysis and root cause investigations on protection systems

Hands-on experience with protection and automation systems including:

  • Siemens protection platforms such as SIPROTEC 4 / SIPROTEC 5 / Reyrolle
  • Knowledge of Power Quality and Substation Automation systems
  • Strong understanding of IEC 61850 communication, GOOSE applications, and relay configuration tools
  • Experience with control logic creation (BCPU / BCU) and configuration files (SCD / ICD / CID)
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols used in protection systems

Testing & Commissioning Expertise

  • Advanced experience with OMICRON test equipment and Test Universe (TU 4.20 or higher)
  • Testing modules including Distance, Line Differential, Transformer Differential, State Sequencer, Ramping, Transplay, and OCC files
  • Experience with HV transmission protection schemes including:
    • Line Distance Protection
    • Line Differential Protection
    • Transformer Main & Backup Protection
    • Busbar Protection (Low / High Impedance)

Additional Technical Exposure

  • Stability testing for line differential protection using CMGPS kits
  • Testing of transformer, shunt reactor, and series reactor differential protection
  • Familiarity with modern digital substation technologies such as Process Bus and RTU integration

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics, or Electrical & Communication Engineering
  • 2 3 years experience in Protection & Automation commissioning
  • Experience in multicultural project environments
  • Experience in substation protection systems in the Middle East or international markets is a strong advantage
