Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital - Sharjah(UHS)
Complies with all UHS policies and procedures and fire regulations
Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS attain and maintain international accreditation standards
Participates in commissioning assigned areas and associated Clinical areas
Ensures performance of nursing practice remains in line with the facility, MOH, JCI and FDON policies, procedures and standards
Monitor and ensure professional standards of care as outlined in departmental policies, are maintained within the Emergency Room, utilizing approved auditing processes and report findings to DON and Head of ER - physician
Prepares and submits statistical data, monthly activity and annual reports to the DON
Develop, manage and maintain strong professional relationships with medical staff, multidisciplinary teams, non-clinical staff and management
Assists with the identification of training needs of the Emergency Room staff, and assists with development of yearly training calendar for the nursing department
Identifies, analyzes and resolves clinical and unit based administrative problems by direct intervention or by notification to appropriate personnel
Participates in performance plans with individual staff members, meeting with staff, reviewing practice concerns, providing required education, documenting performance plan outcomes and recommendations
Acts as resource for both clinical and administrative matters
Investigates and evaluates reports of unusual occurrence, takes timely and appropriate action including completion of necessary documentation
Ensures hospital equipment remains in safe operating condition, ensuring all mandatory servicing requirements are completed by the Bio Medical department and that all necessary documentation is complete
Participates in the orientation of all new Emergency Room personnel, assigns dedicated mentor to new staff, follows up with necessary documentation
Oversees all daily activities associated with the effective operation of the Emergency Room
Plans for efficient unit functioning to assure quality patient care is provided via day-to-day department scheduling of work flow, staffing, equipment, supplies and the implementation of relevant policies
Ensuring staff attend appropriate education sessions through the provision of orientation, competency assessment and ongoing training to maintain relevance clinical skills & knowledge
Maintains accurate departmental related documentation and provides relevant reports to management
Participate in the evaluation and review of staff, equipment and clinical supplies
Contribute to and deliver outcomes as agreed in the UHS budget
Accountable for the provision of the service across 24 hours per day
Assists with workforce planning in coordination with DON
Participate in and manage recruitment and retention strategies within the Emergency Room
Participates in nursing continuous quality improvement initiatives, in-service education programmes, unit meetings and committee functions as assigned by DON
Ensures all yearly appraisals and competencies are completed in accordance with appraisal and competency calendar
Ensures all assignment/reassignment competencies are completed within the agreed policy timelines and all necessary documentation is entered into personnel file
Participates in performance plans with individual staff members, meeting with staff, reviewing practice concerns, providing required education, documenting performance plan outcomes and recommendations as assigned by DON
Promotes core values of the hospital and philosophy of the nursing department
Fosters a climate of personnel challenge and professional growth for all the members of the Nursing Department
Participates in internal orientation, mandatory ,ongoing education programs, attends external conferences, workshops, seminars and courses that will enhance and maintain a current knowledge base
Work any shift as per the duty roster of the Nursing Department when designated
When designated performs the duties of the ADON in her/his absence

Desired Candidate Profile

Required :

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with Degree in Nursing,Masters degree is preferable.
Minimum 10 years experience with at least 5 years in a senior nursing (head nurse, senior charge nurse, charge nurse) position within an Emergency Room of an acute facility
