Department Definition
The Protocol department conducts the full events cycle and monitors protocol for events across all expo divisions. The department s core activities include scoping, planning and supporting Expo 2020 events and the events in the lead up to Expo 2020.
Opportunity Responsibilities
The Manager Protocol Flags & Anthems will manage the Flags & Anthems planning and operations while integrating all relevant functional area requirements in terms of resource scoping and locations management.
The main responsibiltiles of the role include:
- Coordinate with key internal stakeholders the deployment, display and installation of all protocol sets - either indoor or outdoor - as per international standards and having direct impact on the final consultation of the service provider in close cooperation with the Head of Dignitary Services and the Director of Protocol Operations & Integration;
- Support the on-going training of all protocol staff requirements - either volunteers or paid - in order to fulfill his/her tasks and coordinate all relevant activities that will be having an event time reputational implication for the protocol department, Director's General/Commissioner General's office and the international participant under display;
- Additionally, the person appointed must have good knowledge of event management tools, drafting manuals and scheduling staffing as and when required. Good knowledge of the Arabic Culture and UAE customs in terms of flags display as well as a general knowledge in terms of vexillology will be considered a plus;
- Lead the team responsibly and proficiently, providing effective line management to direct reports;
- Set objectives and evaluate performance of individual direct reports and actively manage key personnel issues;
- Ensure that all staff acquire the required skills and knowledge through appropriate learning and development programs;
- Embed culture and vision Expo2020 by role-modelling organizational behaviors through performance management, feedback and coaching.

Desired Candidate Profile


6+ years of event time experience either in GCC region or internationally in order to meet the standard requirement for the protocol post, as well as:
- A Bachelor's degree within the relevant field;
- Integrity, Resilience and Flexibility is highly recommended and expected by the incumbent as well as the highest standard of diplomacy and tact while dealing with the highest international guests attending Expo 2020;
- Reporting and Transfer of Knowledge complete the profile;
- Protocol organizational and major event roles, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills;
- Relevant diplomatic, management & operational capabilities. Approachable, active listening skills and encourages growth and team work with the department and organization;
- Confident, capable collaborative manager, with exceptional attention to detail and time management;
- Project management, financial and planning management skills.
