Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Head of Vocational Training Program as required to fulfil the Academy s strategic priorities.
  • Design and develop course curriculum, syllabi, and lesson plans for marine engineering units, ensuring alignment with academic standards and industry requirements.
  • Deliver lectures and workshops related to marine engineering principles, including ship propulsion, naval architecture, marine systems.
  • Oversee laboratory sessions and practical demonstrations to provide hands-on training in marine engineering techniques, equipment operation, and experimental procedures.
  • Fulfil administrative duties such as record-keeping, grading, course coordination, and committee participation as required by the academy or department.
  • Participate in the examination/ assessment process including the setting of papers, preparing marking schemes, agreeing marks with other staff. Use appropriate and innovative forms of assessment practices to enhance learning and teaching.
  • Ensure full compliance with the requirements of the timetable and the annual academic calendar.
  • Provide timely, constructive, formative and comprehensive feedback to students using all forms of communication.

Skills:

  • High level of technical expertise in marine engineering, encompassing competence of propulsion systems, electrical systems, mechanical systems, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues efficiently to maintain the ship's operational readiness.
  • Welding and metal fabrication skills.
  • Effective communication skills with clear communicated instructions for achieving training objectives.
  • Team player, approachable, sensitive towards all cultures.
  • Work as and when required under pressure with the intention to complete task as promptly and efficiently as is possible

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

  • E: STCW Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Engineer) Unlimited.
  • E: BSc or equivalent Bachelor level academic qualification in relevant subject.
  • P: MSc or equivalent Master level academic qualification in relevant subject.

Experience:

  • E: A minimum of 2-year teaching experience in Diploma or higher level.
  • P: Such experience in Marine/ Maritime Education/ Training Institute.
  • P: Experience of competency-based teaching and assessment.
  • P: Experience of working in an industry supporting seafarer.
  • P: Educational experience with leading courses/ programs, revising course content, developing new programs and courses.
  • P: Familiarity with learning technologies (LMS, online assessment, academic integrity tools).
  • P: Sailed as a Chief Engineer on merchant navy deep sea vessels.
