MERCHANDISE PLANNING MANAGER

Responsible for managing the planning activities for The company including but not limited to: discussing and approving product lines, categories & sub-categories of products “Mix of Range”, etc., evaluating the recommended pricing strategies for each category, analysing past sales figures, selecting the most appropriate solution for non-performing items “Worst-selling items” and aging stocks (e.g. Promotions), in addition to ensuring the successful fulfilment of The company’s Franchise Partners and 3rd party accounts requirements on a timely manner.

Strategy Formulation§ Develop the Department’s strategic objectives & KPIs as per the directions of Director – Merchandising and in line with the company’s overall approved strategy to achieve primary goals, in addition to setting individual objectives where applicable.
§ Aim at achieving the operating results of the Department and ensure that appropriate measures are in place to achieve targeted objectives, reduce risk and make accurate decisions.
Budget & Cost Control
§ Develop the Department annual budget and ensure all employees within the Department are working within the assigned budget by setting the required targets and responsibilities.
§ Monitor and control the Department’s expenditures against the approved budget and reconcile budget variances to ensure on-target performance against budgets.
Policies & Processes
§ Develop the Department’s Policies & Processes in line with the company standards, laws, and regulations and ensure proper implementation of the same.
§ Review briefs prepared by subordinates with regards to latest reports and articles released by WGSN, PANTONE and other fashion trends forecasting websites, as well as research observations obtained from the Design Teams to stay updated with the latest market trends and proactively prepare for future requirements of customers.
§ Participate in the Range Review Sessions to forecast costs/ profits and set the required profit margin accordingly in collaboration with the Director – Merchandising.
§ Participate in discussions with the Director – Merchandising and Manager -Buying to agree on the final price of the company selected designs upon conducting the Range Review Sessions and update the costs/ profits forecast and the required profit margin accordingly.
§ Approve the Annual Calendar Plan and ensure the continuous update of the same to meet set timelines (e.g. Drop & launch dates of each collection).
§ Discuss the recommended product lines, categories & sub-categories of products “Mix of Range”, no. of options and collections required for each season with the Planners to provide feedback (If any) and obtain required approval from Director – Merchandising.
§ Review and evaluate the pricing strategy recommendations provided by subordinates for each category to provide necessary feedback and obtain required approval from Director – Merchandising.
§ Ensure communicating all information related to the approved categories & sub-categories of products “Mix of Range” and the open-to-buy (OTB) plans and the pricing strategies to the Buying Team.
§ Manage the preparation of detailed reports incorporating key metrics including: Sales trends and figures for the company’s stores, e-commerce platforms, Franchise Partners and 3rd party accounts, as well as the best & worst selling items, etc. to allow for better analysis and increase accuracy of forecasts.
§ Analyze past sales figures to identify trends, anticipate customers’ future requirements, provide recommendations related to minimizing unnecessary stock holdings and increase the company’s profits.
§ Initiate seasonal evaluations for the Assortment Plans and provide feedback with the required amendments to be implemented by the Planning Team and ensure communicating the same to other concerned teams (e.g. Buying Team).
§ Approve the updated open-to-buy (OTB) plans for fast and best-selling items to ensure maintaining sufficient inventory levels of these items at all times.
§ Evaluate different solutions proposed by subordinates with regards to handling the non-performing items “Worst-selling items” and aging stocks including: Markdowns (Price reductions), promotions, etc., provide feedback and/ or select the most appropriate solution and ensure communicating the same to the Allocation Team on a timely manner.
§ Communicate with the Wholesalers & Retail Partnerships Team to ensure successfully fulfilling all the requirements of the company’s Franchise Partners and 3rd party accounts as per the work plans on a timely manner.
§ Perform ad-hoc and other duties related to the job as assigned by the Direct Manager.
§ Identify the Department’s manpower requirements and coordinate with the HR & Administration Department regarding the recruitment activities to ensure hiring a highly professional and knowledgeable workforce.
§ Conduct annual performance appraisal for subordinates and recommend salary increments and promotions accordingly.
§ Identify the training needs of employees and ensure training & development initiatives are successfully delivered and provide feedback to the Direct Manager.
§ Delegate responsibilities and assign tasks to subordinates to facilitate performing different tasks and work-related activities.
§ Manage subordinates’ attendance and leaves to ensure complying with The company’s attendance policy, as well as the availability of proper replacement during subordinates’ leaves.
§ Review reports prepared by subordinates related to the activities of the Planning Department and provide feedback, and recommendations accordingly.
§ Prepare and present reports on Department budget activity, problems/incidents/issues, expenditures, trends, etc. and make recommendations.
§ Prepare reports that cover all planning activities such as mix of range, sales figure analysis, product markdowns and promotions taking place throughout the year, etc. for submission to the Direct Manager.
