Job Summary
The Metrology Engineering Technician III calibrates, modifies, and repairs automated/specialized test equipment and systems as well as general purpose test equipment. Provides expertise, training and advice for repair, calibration, and modification for a wide variety of complex precision measurement equipment utilized for assigned program. Additionally provides on-the-job training (OJT) or formal classroom training as required.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)
• Calibrates, modifies, and repairs automated/specialized test equipment and systems as well as general purpose test equipment.
• Performs precision measurements, calibrations, modifications, maintenance and repair actions, and other functions as necessary in all areas of laboratory operations.
• Provides in-depth technical and procedural advice for repair, calibration, and modification of a wide variety of complex precision measurement equipment utilized for assigned program.
• Provides technical and procedural advice and guidance to customer and local government personnel as needed concerning metrology related matters, the conduct of laboratory operations, and the resolution of customer measurement problems.
• Provides OJT or formal classroom training as required.
• Assists in obtaining and maintaining laboratory quality assurance accreditation.
• Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
(Additional knowledge/skill requirements may vary for specialized technicians as required by customer contract.)
• Strong communication skills with the ability to provide OJT or formal classroom training.
• Knowledge of the basic concepts of electronics and science shall include basic electricity, electronics, circuit theory, digital logic, algebra, and physics.
Experience & Education
(Additional experience and education may vary for specialized technicians as required by customer contract.)
• Associate s degree in related area of engineering technology from an accredited school preferred; or completion of a U.S. military precision measurement and calibration program, a precision measurement and calibration school at an accredited school, or within a specialized calibration firm with additional experience required.
• Minimum six (6) years of work experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating electronic precision measurement equipment and calibration laboratory reference standards.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
• Living and working conditions at assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
• 80/20 office & outside environments.
• Ability to lift/pull 20lbs, frequent lifting and stooping and standing as needed.

• Varies by assignment.
