A Mobile Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating a mobile crane to lift, move, position, and reposition loads. The operator controls the crane using levers, buttons, and pedals. The equipment might include lattice or telescopic booms that are mounted on truck-type carriers or self-propelled models. Precision, methodical work habits, and excellent communication skills are essential because the job often requires collaboration with all kinds of ground personnel. Furthermore, the operator needs to be keenly aware of surroundings, understand the crane's capability and limits, and always adhere to proper safety protocols to protect coworkers, the public, and property. A Mobile Crane Operator should have a strong understanding of rigging, signaling methods, and the ability to read and interpret load charts.

Responsibilities

• Operate mobile cranes to lift, move, and position loads safely and efficiently.
• Conduct equipment inspections before and after operation to ensure working condition.
• Collaborate with site personnel to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
• Evaluate ground conditions to ensure stability and safety of crane operations.
• Follow signals from signal person and site personnel to accurately position loads.
• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to prolong equipment lifespan.
• Keep accurate records of all crane operation activities and maintenance schedules.
• Strictly adhere to safety regulations and comply with set safety standards at all times.
• Relay information about last-minute changes to the crane operation plan due to unforeseen circumstances.
• Manage stress effectively, remaining calm and making quick decisions under pressure.
• Participate in safety drills and continuous training to sharpen operational skills and techniques.
• Update knowledge and skills by attending workshops and formal training sessions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent; technical training is a plus.
• Valid Crane Operator Certification from a recognized body (e.g., NCCCO).
• Proven experience as a mobile crane operator with a strong safety record.
• Ability to read and comprehend load charts, blueprints, and schematic drawings.
• Courage and ability to work at elevated heights safely and confidently.
• Exceptional hand-eye coordination and ability to operate controls with precision.
• Capable of performing strenuous physical tasks and standing for long periods.
• Familiarity with various rigging equipment and proper rigging techniques.
• Strong communication skills and ability to follow instructions from ground personnel.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in operation tasks.
