Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care and Management Comprehensive Care: Provide initial assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up for critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU/PCICU, including post-cardiac surgery patients. Advanced Procedures: Perform and oversee advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures specific to the intensive care setting (e.g., central and arterial line placement, intubation, advanced resuscitation, utilization of ECMO and mechanical cardiac support, point-of-care ultrasound/echo). Consultation: Offer specialized consultation services to other departments within the hospital regarding the management of critically ill pediatric cases. Coordination: Function as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team (Cardiologists, Surgeons, Respiratory Therapists, Nursing Staff, etc.) to ensure a holistic and high-quality standard of care. 2. Education, Training, and Supervision Supervision: Directly supervise and mentor specialist physicians, residents, and fellows training in Pediatric Critical Care. Teaching: Actively participate in educational activities, including delivering lectures, workshops, and simulation-based training for medical and nursing staff. Guidance: Guide and support the medical team to ensure adherence to established best practices and clinical protocols. 3. Quality Improvement and Research Compliance: Ensure adherence to all hospital policies, procedures, and clinical protocols that govern the provision of medical services. Safety: Identify potential risks and actively participate in risk mitigation and patient safety strategies. Research: Contribute to and participate in research activities related to Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatric Cardiovascular Intensive Care.

Desired Candidate Profile

  1. Certification: Possess a Specialized Board certification and a Western Fellowship or equivalent degree that is recognized by SCFHS (Saudi Commission for Health Specialties) as qualifying for the Consultant rank. Experience: Must have at least 3-5 years of experience as a Consultant after obtaining the qualified degree. For reference: SCFHS first-degree category requires a minimum of 3 years of experience.

  2. Specific Fellowship: Additional Fellowship training or dedicated experience in Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care (PCICU). Advanced Life Support: Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (current and valid). Research Output: A proven track record of peer-reviewed publications in critical care or pediatric cardiology journals. Administrative Experience: Previous experience in a leadership role, such as Assistant Director or Service Chief within a PICU/PCICU setting. Procedural Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in Transthoracic Echocardiography and Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) in the critical care setting.
