Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Key ResponsibilitiesCorresponding Key Activities performed by the roleManagerial
Maintaining sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties
Reporting shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, maintaining records for ordering and replenishmentsTechnical
Reviews and interprets each prescription/ medication orders in the ward and outpatient settings.
Provides appropriate patient information concerning the medications if & when required.
Advise/ questions/ clarified any prescription abnormality with the prescribing physician. Any unresolved problems are referred to chief pharmacist.
Inspects wards and clinics for outdated, deteriorated, or excessive stocks.
Performs drug utilization/administration evaluations, systematic internal reviews.
Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following:
Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex written instructions.
Knowledge of professional Pharmacy practice.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Basic knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacokinetics, pharmacotherapeutics.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to analyse drug-related medical problems; and
Skill in preparing sterile products.
Checks & reviews medication stocks register in the wards to ensure drug availability and correct inventory.
Replenish crash carts medications including controlled drugs.
Maintains a register for crash carts locks.
Inspects Pharmacy inventory, nursing cabinets and removes any outdated or deteriorated medications.
Answers drug related inquiries received from physicians, dentist and nurses. Those inquiries which cannot be answered with certainty are to be referred to the chief pharmacist.
Assists in the training of new in-pharmacist staff as per the direction of the chief pharmacist.
Performs other miscellaneous duties, as directed by the chief pharmacist.Quality and Safety
Promoting and maintaining quality in all services and ensure continuous quality improvement measures are in place. Conduct method evaluation/ development as per standard policies and procedures
Complying with all safety and quality control programs and procedures as applicable
Complying with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infections
Ensuring that safety procedures and quality assurance tests are maintained within all sections
Comply and support clinical audit processes within the service and report on these as agreed
Communicating in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel as necessary to obtain information for laboratory records, explain procedures, clarify orders and communicate status.Continuous Education
Participating in education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses on the safe and secure handling of equipment, i.e teaching, induction, peer review, case studies, and clinical presentations
Participating in department programs/ committees, various hospital committees, and staff meeting (when requested)
Participating in the orientation and training of new employees
Maintaining professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or on-line education sessions
Completing and maintaining all regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
The ability to apply technical skills, together with a demonstrable knowledge of and interest in sciences, such as anatomy, physiology and physics;

Qualifications

Qualification, Licensure, Experience and Special Skills:Qualifications & licensureRequired:
Education and training. Pharmacists must possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or school of pharmacy.
Thorough knowledge of UAE Laws, company policies, regulations precedents applicable to the area of work.Desired:Fluent in spoken & written English, Arabic language is desirable, but not essential.Experience required in addition to the Qualifications mentioned aboveRequired:Currently licensed in country of origin and with DHA license to practice in Dubai U.A.E.Specialist CertificationRequired:  NADesired:  NAAdditional requirements
Self-motivation and the ability to work under pressure;
Fluent spoken and written English. Spoken Arabic is advantageous but not essential.
A supportive and caring disposition;
