The Production Manager oversees the operations and processes involved in refining gold and other precious metals. This role ensures that the refinery meets production targets, adheres to safety standards, and operates efficiently. The manager will be responsible for supervising staff, managing production schedules, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities: Production Planning and Coordination: Develop and implement production schedules to meet daily, weekly, and monthly targets. Coordinate with various departments (maintenance, logistics, quality control) to ensure smooth operations. Monitor production output and adjust schedules as necessary to optimize capacity. Process Management: Supervise the entire refining process from raw material intake to final gold production. Ensure that refining procedures are conducted efficiently, minimizing loss and maximizing yield. Maintain control over the chemical processes involved in gold refining (e.g., electrolysis, smelting). Quality Assurance: Oversee the quality control processes to ensure that refined gold meets industry and company standards. Work with the quality assurance team to resolve any product defects or inconsistencies. Regularly review and update production protocols to maintain high standards. Staff Supervision and Development: Manage and supervise production staff, including operators, technicians, and laborers. Provide training on safety protocols, new technologies, and industry best practices. Monitor team performance and provide feedback to improve efficiency and morale. Safety and Compliance: Ensure all operations are compliant with environmental and safety regulations. Implement and enforce safety programs to minimize workplace accidents and incidents. Regularly conduct safety audits and inspections. Equipment and Facility Maintenance: Ensure that all machinery and equipment used in the refining process are regularly maintained and serviced. Liaise with the maintenance team to address equipment malfunctions or breakdowns quickly. Oversee facility cleanliness and organization to promote a safe and efficient working environment. Inventory and Supply Chain Management: Manage raw material inventories, ensuring adequate supplies for production without overstocking. Coordinate with procurement and logistics teams to ensure the timely delivery of materials. Track and report on production costs, yield rates, and raw material consumption. Reporting and Data Analysis: Prepare regular reports on production performance, including yield rates, quality metrics, and downtime. Analyze production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement. Provide recommendations to senior management for optimizing processes and reducing costs. Continuous Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in refining processes and implement corrective actions. Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in gold refining. Lead initiatives for process optimization and lean manufacturing. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in production management is a plus. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a production management role, preferably within the precious metals or mining industry. Proven experience managing refinery operations, staff, and resources. Strong understanding of gold refining techniques (e.g., chlorination, Miller process, Wohlwill process). Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills. In-depth knowledge of production scheduling, quality control, and safety management. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Proficiency in using production management software and tools (e.g., ERP systems). Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Certifications (preferred): ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and other relevant certifications for quality and environmental management. Working Conditions: The role may require working in hot, noisy, and potentially hazardous environments. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) will be mandatory. Occasional overtime may be required to meet production deadlines.
