The Department Life Sciences, Arabian Gulf University invites candidates to compete for a tenure-track Professor/Associate Professor position ( One senior position), in Agriculture Biotechnology, preferably a molecular biologist with expertise in modern biotechnologies applied to GMO development and testing and to crops improvement (vertical farming). The successful candidate will be a recognized investigator with a PhD degree and a track record of independent research, demonstrated by high quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and extramural funding commensurate with years of experience.
Position Responsibilities Ã¢Â€Â¢The responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses and/or labs in. Plant Tissue and Cell Culture, Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Breeding and Population Genetics, Plant Genetic Engineering and Genetically Modified Plants, Plant, Soil and Microbe Interactions, Medicinal Plants and Biopharmaceuticals. The candidate may also be required to develop graduate course in their area of expertise.
Includes (but not restricted) mentoring and supervision of MSc and PhD students in carrying out their graduate research projects.
To establish a state of the art research and development activity with a tangible innovative potential. An R&D activity that contributes to solving the current issues in the GCC countries agriculture sector. Along with the development of GMOs safety testing protocols. Faculty are expected to present results at national meetings and publish in refereed journals.
Community Service: To contribute to the university community and the department by serving on committees, helping to recruit potential students, and providing other services to the GCC community through public consultation, workshops and conferences.
Qualification / Certification
An earned doctorate in Agricultural Molecular Biology/Agronomy or closely related discipline from a reputed university is required; candidate must be qualified to teach courses and/or labs in food sciences.
Candidate must have a proven experience in plant genomics, plant genetic engineering and plant tissue culture.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Candidate must be acquainted with the international GMOs regulations and confinement rules.
Candidate must successfully complete the interview process, including a teaching demonstration and a research seminar.
