The Arabian Gulf University/Life Sciences Department (Environmental Biotechnology Program) invites candidates to compete for a tenure-track Professor/Associate Professor position ( One senior position), in the field of Bioenergy. The applicant is expected to have a strong record of research accomplishment in the field of bioenergy production with emphasis on algae and cyanobacteria as feedstocks/hosts to produce biofuels. Applicants with expertise in the field of microbial fuel cells (bioelectrochemical cells) and their applications particularly for the production of bioelectricity and bioremediation will be also considered. In addition, the applicant is expected to have a broad collaboration network of renowned scientists and should show expertise of teaching and supervision of MSc and PhD students. The applicant must prove capability of attracting extramural funding from funding organizations and the industry.
The responsibilities include teaching graduate level courses and/or labs in. Plant Tissue and Cell Culture, Plant Molecular Biology, Plant Breeding and Population Genetics, Plant Genetic Engineering and Genetically Modified Plants, Plant, Soil and Microbe Interactions, Medicinal Plants and Biopharmaceuticals. The candidate may also be required to develop graduate course in their area of expertise.
Includes (but not restricted) mentoring and supervision of MSc and PhD students in carrying out their graduate research projects.
To establish a state of the art research and development activity with a tangible innovative potential. The applicant will build his/her own research group and run research projects at the forefront of the field with particular focus on synthetic biology and systems biology approaches (proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics) to provide profound understanding of the field and enable the commercialization of the bio products.. Faculty are expected to present results at national meetings and publish in refereed journals.
To contribute to the university community and the department by serving on committees, helping to recruit potential students, and providing other services to the GCC community through public consultation, workshops and conferences.
Qualification / Certification
PhD in Microbial Biotechnology, Biochemical Engineering, or a related discipline. Ã¢Â€Â¢ Hands-on expertise in one or more of the following: molecular microbiology, bioinformatics, metabolic engineering, fermentation, microbial physiology and metabolism, metagenomics. Preference will be given to candidates with strong background and expertise in the molecular microbiology and metabolic engineering or synthetic biology.
List of publications in peer-reviewed international journals showing a track record.
