General Description

The Project Manager is based on site and will report directly to the Contracts Manager. He is totally responsible for the management and successful completion of the Project(s) under his control. His primary obligations and responsibilities are to ensure: -

• The profitable execution of the Project so that it achieves at least estimated contribution to overheads and profit.

• The Project conforms in all respects to the Project specifications, all local Health and Safety requirements and is constructed to the quality standard specified

• Through planning and scheduling the Project will be completed within the required construction period.

• The strengthening and maintenance of sound Client and public relationships.

In the day-to-day operation of a site, the Project Manager will manage the construction process, namely:-

• Labour, Plant and Materials
• Subcontractors
• Planning and Programming
• Safety and Quality
• Cost Controls
• Client / Consultant / Public Relations

It is important that each of these elements is managed correctly and to this end the following procedures are listed.

Duties & Responsibilities

Labour, Plant & Materials

The Project Manager will take into consideration the following points: -

Labour - In respect of all labour on site, the Project Manager must:

• Ensure the total labour force on his Project is employed productively.

• Discuss and agree all labour requirements with the Site Agent and Contracts Manager to ensure that gang sizes relate to job / Project requirement.

• Forecast his requirements for labour. The Contracts Manager must be informed on a monthly basis to allow time for arranging labour transfers.

• Give adequate notice of impending release of workmen so sufficient time is given to placing them elsewhere. This allows the company to maintain a stable force of skilled tradesmen.

• In line with the company policy of training and development, recognise employees with potential who once trained could assume additional responsibilities.

• Limit the amount of overtime worked and leave Friday work for essential items of work only.

• Limit the amount of hired labour on site. Where hired labour is inevitable, he must agree the terms with the Contracts Manager

• Ensure that if labour is working on site the necessary supervision is in attendance.

• Monitor and control absenteeism amongst labour

Plant - the Project Manager must ensure that: -

• A plant required schedule is drawn up at the commencement of the Project and issued to the Plant Department through Contract Manager to facilitate scheduling.

• The Plant Department is notified when an item of plant is due to be off-hired. If for any reason an item of operator plant is to remain on site once it has been off-hired, the Project Manager is to ensure the operator leaves site and reports to Head Office.

Materials - The Project Manager is responsible for ensuring that: -

• All materials required for the contract are requisitioned through the company buyer.

• All requisitions generated from site are signed by himself and approved by the Contracts Manager.

In 1935 Khansaheb was established by its founder Mr. Khansaheb Hussain Bin Hassan Amad. It was the UAE's first contracting company.
