Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in the construction and engineering industries, responsible for managing all costs related to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to final figures. The ideal candidate will be meticulous, detail-oriented, and have a strong understanding of construction processes and materials. They will work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure that the project is completed within the allocated budget, and that financial progress is tracked with precision. The Quantity Surveyor is pivotal in ensuring that projects are delivered efficiently, without sacrificing quality, and that financial resources are maximized. This role requires a combination of technical knowledge, financial acumen, and excellent communication skills.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and financial reports for construction projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to determine project viability and financial sustainability.
  • Negotiate contracts with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage project budgets and facilitate project cost control measures.
  • Monitor and evaluate cost performance throughout all phases of the project.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims and manage documentation for dispute resolution.
  • Identify potential financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate them effectively.
  • Calculate material quantities and analyze construction plans to avoid overspend.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure financial objectives align with construction schedules.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and prepare comprehensive financial statements.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in all financial dealings.
  • Liaise with clients to provide regular updates on financial and project progress.

Requirements
  • Bachelor s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Proven experience in cost management or financial analysis within construction.
  • Strong proficiency with cost estimation software and financial management tools.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and experience with contract administration.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
