Our client, Prince Sultan Military Medical City (PSMMC) has an urgent requirement for Registered Staff Midwives. PSMMC, formerly known as Riyadh Military Hospital is considered as one of the most advanced centres in the Middle East and has a capacity of nearly 1200 beds.

Job Summary:

Responsible for the necessary supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labour and post-partum period
Conducts uncomplicated deliveries on her own responsibility
Cares for the newborn infant
Rotates to all areas of maternity

Duties and Responsibilities:


Monitor normal pregnancies and carries out examinations necessary for the development of normal pregnancies. Document findings and reports areas of concern to physician's attention.
Recognize high risk pregnancies and refer cases to physicians for appropriate interventions.
Recognize the warning signs of abnormality in the mother or infant which necessitates referral to a doctor and assists the latter where appropriate. Take the necessary measures in the doctor's absence. Inform midwife in-charge of any concerns.
Monitor the condition of the fetus by the appropriate clinical and technical protocol.
Assist and care for the mother during labour.
Perform non-stress tests by cardiotocography, diagnoses and report abnormalities to the attending physician.
Apply fetal scalp electrodes.
Maintain proficiency in the infiltration of the perineum with local anesthetics and repair perineal trauma excluding 3'd degree tears.
Conduct spontaneous deliveries, including where episiotomy is required. Breech delivery only if spontaneous and precipitate.
Assist obstetric medical staff with abnormal deliveries and other obstetric procedures, e.g. removal of SHIRODKAR suture, extra amniotic prostaglandin.
Attend to OR to serve as circular for caesarean patients and assist the pediatrician with care and resuscitation of the newborn infant.
Examine and care for the newborn infants, initiate where necessary, immediate resuscitation.
Assist the mother with the initiation of breastfeeding.
Assist the doctor and carry out treatment prescribed by a doctor.
Order laboratory tests as requested by the Doctor, review results and refer outcome.
Conduct special procedures and test as directed by the Doctor and ensure interpretation and referral of results.
Administer drugs which she is qualified to give as a practitioner based on international standards and unit protocol.
Maintain all the necessary records and ensure effective communication.
Supervise all midwifery care to patient including hygiene and nutrition.
Prepare and implement and evaluate care plans.
Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all patient related information in relation to service provision and healthcare treatments and services.
Maintain the safety and well-being of patients and staff in accordance with Health and Safety Policy and ensure that all accidents and incidents are reported and documented.
Maintain generic and unit-specific competencies up-to-date.

Minimum Requirements:


Nursing Diploma and Registered Staff Midwife.
Active professional license in country of origin.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

Professional Experience:

Two (2) years experience in general nursing.
Three (3) years post-registration experience in midwifery with a minimum of six (6) months labour ward or related experience.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

Essential: Current working knowledge of acute areas of midwifery practice in an acute tertiary hospital.
Desirable: Spoken Arabic language, basic computer skill.

Personal Qualities:

Essential: Effective communication skills.
Desirable: High standard of leadership and management skill.
