Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Conduct frequent site inspections, proactively identifying and mitigating hazards before incidents occur, ensuring a safe work environment for all.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and training initiatives, tailored to the specific construction project, empowering workers with the knowledge to protect themselves.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents thoroughly, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence, contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations (OSHA, local codes, etc.), proactively updating procedures to reflect changes and maintain legal adherence.
  • Manage and maintain all safety-related documentation, including permits, reports, and training records, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for audits.
  • Coordinate and lead safety meetings and toolbox talks, fostering a culture of safety awareness and open communication among workers, supervisors and contractors.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to project managers and subcontractors on safety matters, helping them integrate safety into their daily operations.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, using data to identify areas for improvement and drive a proactive approach to safety management.
  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE), ensuring that all workers have the appropriate gear and know how to use it.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and emerging safety technologies, incorporating innovations to enhance safety performance and prevent accidents.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Hold a relevant professional certification such as CSP, CHST, or similar, demonstrating a commitment to professional development and expertise.
  • Accumulate a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in construction safety, with a proven track record of successful safety program implementation.
  • Exhibit a deep understanding of construction processes, hazards, and safety regulations, demonstrating practical knowledge of the industry.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively train, motivate, and influence workers at all levels.
  • Possess excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, capable of identifying hazards and developing effective solutions to complex safety challenges.
  • Be proficient in using safety management software and tools, such as incident reporting systems and risk assessment software, enhancing efficiency.
  • Show proficiency in English, both written and spoken, with an ability to clearly communicate safety information and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, with a proactive and results-oriented approach to safety management, driving positive outcomes.
  • Possess the physical ability to walk construction sites, climb ladders, and perform other physical tasks, necessary for site inspections.
