Roles & Responsibilities

The opportunity


Substation Automation Systems Testing & Commissioning for various projects. Act as the responsible commissioning engineer overseeing the installation and commissioning of Substation Automation systems for assignments classified as medium commissioning complexity. Manage completion of all commissioning activities efficiently and cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.

How you ll make an impact

  • Represents the Commissioning function at project meetings and design review meetings.

  • Contributes to creation of the project commissioning philosophy. Manages implementation of the project commissioning philosophy.

  • Manages Implementation of commissioning design changes and the production of as built project documentation.

  • Supports continuous improvement of project process and product and system design via provision of lessons learned feedback.

  • Supports Project Managers in issuing claims (new scope of work, cost impact, time impact, risk quantifications etc.).

  • Creates work plans for work in own area of responsibility and proactively manages this work to deliver the agreed program on time, on quality and at targeted cost.

  • Conducts risk and opportunity assessments in real time during the commissioning phase to ensure safe implementation of the commissioning philosophy and identification of potential variation requests to support contract claims. Reports early any contract/quality/program/cost issues to management, along with recommendations for resolution.

  • Acts as the ABB lead for commissioning activities on a project.

  • Ensures that ABB is presented as a professional organization in all interactions with the customer. Interfaces with customers and external providers for approval of plant acceptance criteria, open issues closure and performance tests. Coordinates site activities focused on finalizing customer acceptance certification.

  • Manages external organizations providing Commissioning with equipment, systems or services (e.g. issues permits to work, provides guidance on health and safety requirements and work practices, accepts as complete work done).

  • Actively develops and coaches colleagues. Cultivates a network of Engineering colleagues both within and outside own business unit. It takes a lead role in developing function within own business unit gathering and sharing best practice.

  • Creates standard processes and tools. Use agreed processes and procedures to ensure that all commissioning activities comply with the required safety regulations and satisfy contractual requirements.

  • Tasks manage small Commissioning teams. Prepare project documentation for SAT.

  • Obtain approvals from utilities for Commissioning activities of SAS Systems.

  • Knowledge & experience of third-party product and systems .

  • H & S: follow safety rules on construction sites according to regulations.

  • Proactive coordination and reporting to principal commissioning engineer operationally and Commissioning Manager functionally.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your background

  • Thorough knowledge of Substation automation systems and different communication Protocols. In-depth Product knowledge of ABB and Competitor s.

  • Working knowledge & understanding of GRS system on various protocols i.e., IEC101, IEC104. Knowledge of design tools Visio and Most importantly knowledge of Cyber Security and its implementation.

  • RTU Commissioning is an added advantage Thorough knowledge of control and interlocking logics in Substations.

  • 5 to 8 years experience as a Commissioning Engineer of SAS system and products.

  • Taken large and medium complex project in operation 4 to 5years experience in IEC 61850.

  • 2 3projects per year Team Size 2 to 4 and understanding customer needs and optimize electrical design in terms of time, cost, quality and customer satisfaction.

  • System wide understanding, product understanding, handle complex systems.

  • Multi priority and multi-tasking. Analytical and strategic approach.

  • High Customer orientation. Good communication and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required and Arabic is plus.
