Roles & Responsibilities

The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) is the operational arm of the United Nations. It supports the successful implementation of peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects undertaken by its partners worldwide. UNOPS helps its partners build a better future by providing services that enhance the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of peacebuilding, humanitarian, and development projects. Mandated as a central resource of the United Nations, UNOPS provides sustainable project management, procurement, and infrastructure services to a wide range of governments, donors, and UN organizations.

The UNOPS office in Tunisia includes offices, meeting rooms, and public spaces. To ensure a safe environment for staff and visitors, the security officer will be responsible for performing various safety and security tasks under the direct supervision of the administrative associate.

Daily tasks:

  • Apply visitor screening procedures, including sending escorts if necessary.
  • Provide and use electronic equipment (metal detector) for search and excavation.
  • Maintain and operate new and existing fire suppression systems and related equipment provided.
  • Perform mail control by inspecting materials and packages entering the premises, as well as mail receiving, recording and distribution systems.
  • Prevent access to the complex by individuals intending to cause damage to UN personnel, property or systems.
  • Account for the assets belonging to the United Nations security management system organization that leave the premises or the protected area.
  • Take immediate action in the event of a security incident.
  • Facilitate movement within the premises or area in a way that meets operational needs.

Periodic tasks: 

  • Implement any ad hoc security-related task deemed essential to ensure or maximize the safety and security of UN personnel, as communicated by the United Nations agency or UNDSS.
  • Ensure the deployment of a rapid response team within a period not exceeding 30 minutes, in the event of an attack, threat or any other urgent situation requiring on-site reinforcement.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education

Secondary education is an advantage

Experience

Have at least 1 year of experience as a security guard.

LANGUAGES

Fluency in Arabic is required

Knowledge of French is an asset
