Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs and procedures in strict accordance with federal, provincial, and site-specific regulations (CNSC, CSA, OSHA, MOE).
- Conduct frequent field audits, inspections, and behavioral observations to identify potential hazards, ensure compliance with procedures, and verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigation processes using root cause analysis (RCA) methodologies to determine underlying causes and implement effective preventive measures.
- Develop and deliver targeted EHS training to employees, contractors, and management on topics such as radiological safety, hazardous energy control (lockout/tagout), chemical safety, and fall protection.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for all EHS-related matters, providing expert guidance to project management and field personnel.
- Manage and oversee environmental aspects, including waste characterization, storage, and disposal, air permitting, and spill prevention plans.
- Prepare and submit detailed regulatory reports, permit applications, and internal performance metrics.
Who You Are (Qualifications & Requirements):
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- A minimum of 5 years of direct EHS experience, with a strong preference for backgrounds in the nuclear, power generation, or heavy manufacturing/industrial sectors.
- Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) is highly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (e.g., NSCA, CNSC regulations, Ontario OHSA, EPA regulations, ISO 14001/45001).
- Proven experience in radiological safety programs and practices is a significant asset.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage teams.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances.
