Senior System Engineer (Railway System Integration Manager)

The Railway Senior System Engineer is responsible for designing, integrating, and optimizing railway systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role involves system-level thinking, covering rolling stock, signaling, infrastructure, power supply, and communication systems.

The successful candidate will join the RINA team and will act as Railway Integration Manager for the project of appointment, leading the System Engineering team and collaborating with other System Engineering and System Assurance Experts and Managers, by ensuring the full successful integration of the systems involved in the development and construction of the whole railway system.

Key Accountabilities

A. System Design & Architecture

• Defining and managing railway system scenarios, requirements, system architecture, interaction between subsystems (rolling stock, signaling, tracks, power supply).
• Selecting appropriate technologies and configurations for new rail projects.
• Manage the interface development by the subsystems and coordinating the process of verification and validation of all interfaces during the life cycle of the project up to interface final successful closure.

B. System Integration

• Ensuring interoperability between different railway subsystems, interfaces between rolling stock, signaling, and infrastructure.
• Validating system compatibility across national and international requirements and standards (e.g., EN, NFPA, ...).
• Ensuring performance and functionalities for all foreseen scenarios for the railway system.
• Manage the correct integration of the system with all the external stakeholders, ensuring the correct finalization of interfaces and of all the applicable authorization processes.

C. Performance Optimization

• Enhancing railway system efficiency in terms of capacity, energy consumption, and operational reliability.

D. Verification & Validation

• Ensuring railway systems adhere to the performance and characteristics required by the project requirements, standards, laws,
• Defining and monitoring the execution of the V&V plan

E. Lifecycle Management

• Managing railway system upgrades and modernization projects.
• Supporting asset management and maintenance planning to maximize system longevity.

F. Digitalization & Smart Rail Technologies

• Implementing IoT, AI, and Big Data solutions for predictive maintenance and automation.
• Working with Digital Twin, Remote Monitoring, and Smart Signaling technologies.
