Roles & Responsibilities
Emirates Flight Training Facilities offers an advanced facility with full-flight simulators for Emirates' Airbus and Boeing fleet. It is a modern training facility for its flight deck crew. The Flight Training Facilities provide a range of world-class training and development programs for its workforce and other aviation professionals. In Dubai, these include the Emirates Flight Training Academy for cadets, Emirates Aviation University, the Emirates Cabin Crew Training Centre, and numerous programs specially created for different segments of its employees.
A Sim Visual Database Modelling Specialist will address all simulator visual database modelling requirements on Emirates flight simulators and ensure that the flight simulator visual scenes maintain the required level of fidelity for (i) the specific training purpose and, (ii) for continued certification of the simulators. The specialist will also develop new visual databases where required to support training and airline operation into Category C airfields.
- To assess visual database modelling issues raised on the simulators by operators and certification authorities.
- To prioritise and plan the work across a varied fleet requirement, and assess the resources required.
- To collect and collate data required for visual database modelling in liaison with airport and security authorities for arrangement for site visits.
- To maintain contact with system supplier to resolve problems arising. It will be required to train other visual modellers in initial visual modelling skills. It will require application of complex visual modelling principles across different modelling platforms with varying levels of complexity.
- To manage the visual database changes using complex visual modelling tools. The jobholder is expected to assess all modifications on the modelling station and transfer modification to the simulator for testing.
- To address all new airport visual database requirements. The jobholder must assess visual database library, formulate a plan of work, commence data collection and build on modelling station. The jobholder requires a high level of project planning to ensure delivery within timeframe required by Flight Operations Training demand or regulatory requirement. Time scales involved for projects will vary between 4 weeks up to 6 months.
- To optimise visual databases to ensure maximum functionality within the visual system architecture and limitations. The jobholder must remain current with developments in this area across different visual platforms.
- To perform visual database reviews of modifications with Flight Operations Training. The jobholder is expected to discuss recommendations and determine best way to incorporate requirements and to use experience to design best solution to meet requirement within the required timeframe and technical capacity of the equipment.
- To create and maintain a visual database configuration control system, to effectively track changes between database source and simulator models.
- To transfer new and modified visual databases onto the simulator, and incorporate for testing. The jobholder must ensure that all functionalities are fully tested before releasing for review, this must be carried in accordance with quality system procedures for simulator update. This needs to be carried in coordination with Simulator Engineers to ensure access to simulators and co-ordinate updates of simulator software loads.
- To update simulator snag operational database on progress of work performed.
To qualify for the role, you will need to have:
- Typical field of education: Geography, Urban Planning, Architecture, GIS, and Computer Art & 3D graphics with preferred exposure to software tools such as Mutigen Creator, ArcView and Adobe Photoshop.
- Experience of 3D modelling with a simulator operator or manufacturer, or 7 years of experience in a CAD/computer graphics environment, with experience of relevant tools.
Knowledge/skills:
- Ability to visualize 3D spatial environments.
- Artistic abilities and interest to virtually reproduce a real environment.
- Knowledge of general aviation and avionics is an asset.
