Job Overview
The Social Counselor is a skilled communicator who can frequently consult with parents, teachers, and other staff about the progress and issues of any student. He/she promotes and enhances the overall MVC of the school by collaborating to create a safe, healthy and caring environment. He/she links the home and the school and addresses obstacles to learning and achievement.
The Social Counselor facilitates the social and emotional development of students in need. He/she assesses the needs of students, monitors their performance, and consults with academic staff to help them provide strategies and techniques to support student social and personal growth.
The Social Counselor responds to referrals from the SLT regarding at-risk students and uses his/her counseling skills to address any issue and takes preventive actions to avoid problem escalation.

Education / Training / Teaching / Academics

Desired Candidate Profile

• Master in Counseling from an accredited university
• Minimum Bachelor s Degree in counseling/ Physiology from an accredited university
• 3 years of experience required at least
• Expert-level written and oral communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
1. Uses an array of appropriate formal and informal methods including observations and interviews to evaluate the needs of students and their impact on student learning
2. Uses evaluation information to devise intervention plans that are appropriate to students, family, and the school
3. Develops long and short term plans that allow parents to understand and be able to meet the social and emotional needs of their child
4. Assists students in the development of academic and career plans as well as the development of interpersonal and social skills
5. Provides counseling to individual students, as well as groups of students, on issues relating to self and social awareness, family and peer relationships, acceptance of loss of a family member or a peer, or any school-wide crisis
6. Disseminates information to staff and parents on the social counseling program in the school
7. Contributes to the preparation of IEP for SEND students as needed
8. Coordinates the referral and follow up of case students to external agencies as needed and appropriate and in collaboration with the Principal and the SENDCO
9. Attends departmental and external meeting when required
10. Stays up-to-date with new developments in the area of social counseling through readings, conferences, and other means of training and knowledge acquisition and transfers this knowledge to members of the academic staff on a regular basis
11. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records on students updating them regularly and providing reports when needed
12. Respects and maintains the confidentiality of information obtained during the exercise of his/her duties sharing information with others only on a need to know basis
13. Participates in the professional development activities for educational staff as requested
14. Establishes and maintain an ongoing relationship with local agencies and other organization to help meet the needs of student
15. Exhibits high morals and professional conduct when dealing with students, parents, staff and other external agencies
16. If delegated by the Principal to be the Child Protection Coordinator:
Encourages a culture of listening to children and taking account of their wishes and feelings
Is alert to the specific needs of children in need, especially students with special educational needs
Makes staff aware of training courses and the latest policies on safeguarding children
Keeps detailed written records of all concerns, ensuring that such records are stored securely and flagged on, but kept separate from, the student s general file
Refers cases of suspected abuse to Head of Section or Principal
Ensures that when a student leaves the school, their Child Protection file is passed to the new school (separately from the main student file and ensuring secure transit) and confirmation of receipt is obtained, whenever applicable
Attends and/or contributes to Child Protection conferences or training
Ensures parents are aware of the school s role in safeguarding and that referrals about suspected abuse and neglect may be made
