Roles & Responsibilities

Job Description

Clinical activities:

  1. Responsible for providing comprehensive patient care in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
  2. Responsible for assessment and reassessment of patients.
  3. Cares for and treats women during prenatal, natal, and postnatal periods.
  4. Provides surgical care in the operating room and in the O.P.D. pertaining to gynecologic and obstetric conditions for both emergency and planned procedures.
  5. Covers the Delivery Room to include admitting patients, reviews their history, plans a course of action, and performs both spontaneous and operative deliveries while interacting with midwives.
  6. Covers the Emergency Service by promptly responding to calls for consultation.
  7. Provides out-patient care in Clinics, as assigned by the head of department.
  8. Works evenings, nights, week-ends and holidays according to the schedule compiled by the head of department.
  9. Performs and interprets ultrasound examinations on an out-patient and in-patient basis.
  10. Interprets fetal heart rate monitor and takes necessary action accordingly.
  11. Carries out formal and informal consultations from physicians from other departments.
  12. Interacts with patients' families to keep them informed of the patient's condition, changes in condition and plans.

Administrative activities:

  1. Attends committee meetings when so assigned by the Head of department.
  2. Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.
  3. Reviews journals, texts or periodicals in order to update latest techniques, procedures, drugs and therapy.
  4. Involved in development of International level guidelines to standardize and improve quality of service provided.
  5. Follows standard policies and procedures as required by HAAD, JCI, ISO, OSHMS and other regulatory bodies.
  6. Participates in scheduled in-service training programs, CMEs, divisional teaching activities, the regular physicians’ conference or other committees as requested.
  7. Participate in improvement initiates within the department
  8. Handle complaints in an amicable manner when necessary
  9. Foster interdepartmental liaison in order to ensure maintenance of established level of Service Agreements.
  10. Aware of hospital fire policy and emergency procedures.
  11. Participate in a quality assurance program for the obstetrics and gynecology services and help develop and monitor indicators
  12. Assist the senior staff in developing best practice guidelines protocols
  13. Documents all care provided and education/information given to patients within their medical health record, as per professional and practice standards / protocols.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  1. Completion of a recognized higher professional education program.
  2. Certification of higher professional education recognized by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD): MRCOG/FRCOG plus CCT(GMC Specialist Registration) in Obstetrics & Gynecology, or FRCOG, or American Board Certification, or FRCS Canada, or FRACOG, or Equivalent specialist registration in Obstetrics & Gynecology recognized by the Health Authority-Abu Dhabi (HAAD).
  3. Must have minimum of five years of experience since gaining the higher qualification.
  4. Minimum of three years’ experience as a registered Consultant, Board Certified Specialist or DOH recognized equivalent in the required specialty
  5. Demonstrated commitment to continuing medical education.
  6. Training, experience and clinical competence in one of the following aspects of Obstetrics & Gynecology – General, Fetal Medicine, Oncology, Infertility or Urogynecology.
  7. Must possess HAAD License to practice.
  8. Must possess thorough knowledge of medical ethics.
  9. Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
  10. Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
  11. Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
  12. Possess a “can do” and flexible approach.
  13. Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.
