Roles & Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Produce several monthly stories deep dives, athlete profiles, or creative takes on moments shaping sports culture.
  • Cover sports through the lens of culture: fashion, music, fan movements, social media, and legacy.
  • Write long-form features, social essays, or narrative-driven videos highlighting the region s rising athletes.

Video & Social Storytelling

  • Appear on or host video segments related to GOAT debates, athlete style, or major sporting events.
  • Collaborate with the video and social teams on short-form content from locker-room interviews to fan vox pops.
  • Contribute to IPs and social-first franchises across Complex s sports vertical.

Commissioning & Collaboration

  • Work with contributing editors and freelancers to develop regionally relevant sports coverage.
  • Commission photographers, writers, and commentators to expand the voice of sports storytelling.
  • Liaise with brands, clubs, and athletes for exclusive features and collaborations.

Cultural Integration

  • Ensure MENA s sports stories reflect not just competition, but the cultural worlds surrounding them fashion, music, identity, and community.
  • Balance Arabic and English storytelling to speak to a pan-regional audience. br

Desired Candidate Profile

  • 3+ years in sports journalism, content, or commentary.
  • Specialization in at least one sport (football, basketball, motor sports, boxing, or wrestling).
  • Strong understanding of how sports intersect with culture and fandom.
  • Confident on-camera presence; able to translate expertise into storytelling. br
