Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Inspection and Supervision:
    Conduct regular, continuous surveillance and detailed inspections of all permanent structural works, including foundations, concrete works (casting, curing, sampling), steel reinforcement, formwork, and associated civil works.
    Ensure strict compliance with the Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) and approved Method Statements (MS).
    Witness and confirm all material and concrete testing (e.g., cube tests, slump tests) are carried out correctly and review the laboratory test results.
    Obtain final approval from the Resident Engineer (RE) or Senior Structural Engineer before any major activities, such as concrete pours.
  • Drawing and Documentation Control:
    Review and verify all contractor Shop Drawings, material submissions, and construction procedures against the Contract Drawings and Specifications.
    Maintain an accurate, daily site diary and detailed records of all inspection requests (IRs), site activities, progress, material deliveries, and non-conformances.
    Mark-up design/site changes on working drawings to assist in the preparation of As-Built Drawings.
  • Quality Assurance and Non-Conformance:
    Identify and report immediately any deviations from the approved drawings, specifications, or quality standards (Non-Compliance Reports - NCRs).
    Monitor and track the contractor's corrective actions to ensure timely closeout of all NCRs and site observations.
    Check dimensions, levels, profiles, and ensure the correct erection and stability of formwork/falsework/shuttering.
  • Coordination and Reporting:
    Report directly to the Resident Engineer (RE) or Senior Structural Engineer on the progress, quality, and any critical issues encountered on-site.
    Coordinate structural inspections with other disciplines (e.g., MEP, Architectural) as required.
    Assist in administering the project safety program, monitor contractor's procedures for Health & Safety compliance, and report incidents immediately.

Desired Candidate Profile

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 to 10+ years of proven experience in site supervision for structural works, preferably on large-scale building/infrastructure projects (e.g., high-rise towers, commercial developments) with a major engineering consultant.
  • Technical Skills:
    In-depth knowledge of international engineering standards, building codes (e.g., ACI, AISC, BS, Eurocodes), and local regulations (e.g., UAE/Dubai/Abu Dhabi codes).
    Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering and architectural plans and specifications.
    Familiarity with various structural construction methodologies, materials, and non-destructive testing techniques.
    Computer literacy, including the ability to utilize software for data access, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills in English for effective reporting and interaction with contractors, clients, and the project team.
