Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Project Oversight and Management: Oversee the planning and execution of all major mechanical projects, including diesel engine overhauls, propulsion system repairs, and in-situ machining. This includes managing project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure completion within the agreed-upon scope and schedule.
- Technical Authority and Problem Solving: Act as the ultimate technical authority for the mechanical team. Provide expert guidance and on-site support for complex or high-stakes repairs. Diagnose and solve major technical issues that arise during projects.
- Team Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and manage a large team of service engineers, foremen, and technicians. Conduct performance reviews, provide training, and ensure the team has the skills and resources needed to excel.
- Client and Stakeholder Relations: Act as a key liaison between Goltens, clients, classification societies, and subcontractors. Maintain strong relationships and ensure clear communication on project status, technical challenges, and any changes in scope.
- Operational and Financial Control: Monitor and control project costs, including man-hours, materials, and vendor services, to ensure profitability. Prepare detailed reports on project performance and departmental activities for senior management.
- Safety and Quality Assurance: Implement and enforce a rigorous safety culture within the mechanical department. Ensure all work complies with the highest standards of quality, safety regulations, and industry certifications.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Education: A Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Class 1 or Class 2 Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency (CoC) is highly preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in the marine, offshore, or heavy industrial sectors. This must include significant hands-on experience and at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role. Prior sea-going experience as a Chief Engineer or Second Engineer is a major advantage.
- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, propulsion systems, pumps, valves, and other mechanical machinery. Strong understanding of maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting procedures.
- General Skills: Excellent leadership, organizational, and financial management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities. The capacity to work under extreme pressure and travel frequently, often on short notice.
