Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
A telecom construction engineer in the oil and gas sector manages the design, installation, and integration of communication systems, including fibre optics, radio, CCTV, and PAGA, for onshore and offshore projects. Key responsibilities include conducting site surveys, preparing engineering documents, ensuring compliance with industry standards (such as ITU, IEEE, IEC), coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, managing vendors, and supervising construction activities through commissioning. The role requires a strong technical background in telecommunications, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, safety-conscious environment.
- Documentation:
Prepare and review technical documents, including design basis, specifications, datasheets, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, installation details, calculations, and material take-offs (MTOs).
- Site Operations:
Conduct site surveys to gather data and supervise installation, configuration, and testing of telecom equipment on-site.
- Coordination:
Liaise with clients, vendors, and internal engineering teams (instrumentation, electrical, process) to ensure system integration and compliance with project requirements.
- Quality and Compliance:
Ensure all design and construction work adheres to relevant international and company-specific codes, standards, and safety protocols.
- Project Management:
Provide technical guidance to junior engineers, support procurement by evaluating vendor bids, and manage project timelines and deliverables.
Key Systems Managed
- ICT Networks: Local Area Networks (LAN), Wireless LAN (WLAN), and telephony systems.
- Radio Systems: VHF, UHF, DMR, and microwave radio.
- Security & Surveillance: Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) and access control systems.
- Safety Systems: Public Address and General Alarm (PAGA) systems for life safety and marine communication.
- Data Transmission: Satellite communications and transmission of data from SCADA systems.
Desired Candidate Profile
- A Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Telecommunications Engineering.
- 10+ years of experience in construction of telecommunication systems within the oil and gas sector.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with oil and gas project phases, relevant international standards (ITU-T, IEEE, IEC), and hazardous area classification is crucial.
- Candidate who can join immediately shall be preferred
