Underwriter Engineering - This position is a hands-on and functional management role assigned to a specific lines of business directly contributing to the business growth and profitability of the underwriting business and portfolio mix management through translating the department s business strategy into a workable plan, through focusing on maximum risk analysis and exposure, solid negotiations, and providing pricing support for new and renewal business .
This is a hands on supervisory role with a substantial level of decision making authority, within the business and for the portfolio. Expectations are to build and maintain strong professional relationships and act as a role model within the organization. Travel will be required.
You will be driving new and renewal business underwriting with a full adequacy of underwriting information and data provided. Supervise underwriting review sheet preparation with full accuracy of presented statistical data. Directly responsible for the review of all offer summaries, quotations, counter proposals, endorsements, compliance with reinsurance protection and UW guidelines. Refer to higher authority when required as per assigned approved authority level, and review all documentation for complete accuracy of final Offer Slip and Wording documents prior to signing as 1st or 2nd level signatory, or refers to higher authority level highlighting changes/discrepancies in Final Slip Summary.Ensure aggregate exposure entries and approved limit s accuracy.Periodically review the performance and capacity utilization of the book of business.Review PNOCs prior to due dates and submits for senior underwriter approval as required.Accounts above authority level to be referred to higher underwriting authority in line with the procedure manual.Whenever required, proposes a formal plan for collection of outstanding balances, outstanding accounts and reconciliation of reserves.Analyzes the periodical reserves reconciliation report in order to justify any difference between retained and released reserves.Ensure that the KYC documentation is completed and approved by Compliance department as per the policy guidelines.
Act as the primary point of contact for direct and/or brokered reinsurance markets (specific producer accounts and its agency personnel).Review the accuracy of complex business and statistical data produced on each cedant/ broker as per designated market area, and amends/proposes necessary changes/ modifications and integrate into Divisional database .Analyze developing exposures and market trends.Check and validate market data for new markets, products, and or segments and works with the Business Development & Risk Departments to identify new production opportunities and track competitor activity. Continuous cross-marketing of new business opportunities through existing and new lines of business within the Marketing Unit territory.Study actuarial tables which provide statistical probabilities and prepares marketing strategies for their Marketing Unit territory in line with other parties involved in the same Marketing Unit.
As part of being a mentor and leader demonstrate expert technical, professional, or job-related knowledge and skills required to guide effectively and provides hands-on training to team members of the section/ department when required.Control workload activities for maximization of team s time and resource usage.Clearly communicate departmental expectation of team members to each team member, directs prioritization of departmental requirements to ensure target achievement, ensures solid information management for team focus and target achievement.Contribute extensively to development of departmental/sectional goals in line with business plan, and ensures achievement through establishment of a solid action plan. Coach and/or mentors more junior team on business issues (market conditions, competitors, relationship management, important developments in exposure, compliance or underwriting process, etc.). Contribute to compilation of department budgeting and business planning.Support senior management with all HR related activities as required and Inspire colleagues to believe in the organization s mission and values, and adopt a can do attitude with support of others through the confidence they instill that difficult goals can be achieved.
