Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement welding procedures (WPS) and ensure compliance with international codes and standards like ASME, AWS, and API for oil and gas construction projects.
- Oversee and manage welding activities, including supervision of welders, inspection of welds, and quality control to ensure adherence to project specifications and safety regulations.
- Conduct weld procedure qualification records (WPQR) and welder performance qualifications (WPQ) to guarantee the competency of welders and the validity of welding procedures.
- Provide technical support and guidance to project teams on welding-related issues, materials selection, and fabrication techniques for optimal project outcomes.
- Perform weld inspections, including visual, NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) interpretation, and review of radiographic films, to ensure weld integrity and identify potential defects.
- Review and approve welding documentation, such as welding maps, material traceability reports, and inspection and test plans (ITPs), to maintain accurate records and compliance.
- Troubleshoot welding-related problems, analyze weld failures, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence and maintain project timelines.
- Stay abreast of the latest welding technologies, materials, and industry best practices to continuously improve welding processes and project efficiency.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as materials, mechanical, and structural engineers, to ensure seamless integration of welding activities within overall project plans.
- Prepare and deliver training sessions on welding procedures, safety, and quality control to welders and other project personnel to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Possesses a Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, providing a strong foundation in welding principles.
- Holds an International Welding Engineer (IWE) certification, demonstrating expertise and adherence to global welding standards.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in the oil and gas construction industry, showcasing practical application of welding engineering principles.
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW), materials, and their applications in oil and gas infrastructure.
- Proficient in interpreting and applying welding codes and standards such as ASME, AWS, API, and EN, ensuring compliance and quality.
- Exhibits strong technical skills in NDT methods (RT, UT, PT, MT) and interpretation, guaranteeing weld integrity and defect detection.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, capable of troubleshooting welding issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Possesses strong leadership qualities with the ability to supervise, mentor, and guide welding teams, promoting a culture of safety and quality.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken) is essential, and any other languages are a plus, ensuring seamless communication in a diverse work environment.
