Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Carries out the primary responsibilities of medical care for all species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates housed at The National Aquarium.
  • Oversees diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plans for the entire collection.
  • Research establishes and maintains humane and professional veterinary standards.
  • Works closely with the regional veterinarian for case reviews and periodic visits.
  • Conducts clinical and diagnostic investigations, including laboratory testing and interpretation.
  • Performs and oversees cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of surgical tools, diagnostic equipment, and medical spaces.
  • Dispenses and administers medications, treatments, and vaccinations.

Wildlife Rescue & Off-Site Response

  • Serves as a core member of the Wildlife Rescue Team.
  • Responds to off-site wildlife emergencies, emphasizing in sea turtles as majority case.
  • Provides onsite and offsite medical stabilization, examinations, and ongoing treatment of rescued wildlife.
  • Works confidently and independently in off-site, unsupervised rescue scenarios.
  • Overseas operations at the Louvre Abu Dhabi sea turtle rehabilitation centre.

Training, Leadership & Collaboration

  • Orients, mentors, and trains staff in clinical diagnostics, treatments, and laboratory procedures.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and develops animal health staff.
  • Maintains excellent cross-functional team communication with animal care, life support, rescue, and operations teams.
  • Manages inventory for medical and laboratory supplies.

Other Duties

  • Maintains personal and professional development.
  • Ensures strict confidentiality of medical information.
  • Performs additional duties as required for the safe and effective operation of the Animal Health Department.

Desired Candidate Profile

Veterinarian license, ideally at a degree level with aquarium background.

3 years of experience working within an aquarium or similar facility.

SCUBA certification from a recognized training agency.

English, Arabic is desirable.

Advanced computer skills are desirable.

Driver s license is an advantage.

Must feel comfortable working in closed spaces or when surrounded by wild animals.

Must be able to lift 20Kg.
