Job Description
Roles & Responsibilities
As Workshop Technician you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, calibration, surface finishing, and painting tasks on Emirates and third-party aircraft, components, tools, and equipment in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements. The role involves working as part of a team under the direction and guidance of an assigned Supervisor or Engineer within the relevant trade or cross-trade disciplines for which the job holder has been trained.
In this role you will:
- Carry out routine component and tool servicing, calibration, maintenance, modification, and/or approved structural repairs in compliance with manufacturers procedures while observing all safety protocols.
- Complete any component or tool maintenance and other tasks as assigned by the immediate Supervisoror Engineers. This includes obtaining and understanding the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), Illustrated Parts Catalogue (IPC), Component Maintenance Manual (CMM), Standard Practice Manual (SPM), Quality Manual ISO/IEC 17025, or other approved documentation required to carry out the task.
- Assist Supervisors or Engineers in troubleshooting, defect rectification, and performing modifications while following instructions contained in the job card.
- Ensure all work locations are kept clean and maintain excellent housekeeping. Maintain vigilance in ensuring work areas (including the ramp), vehicles, stands, and lockers are free of FOD, and that toolboxes are regularly audited, maintained, and kept clean.
- Promote and uphold a strong safety culture to minimise the risk of accidents and highlight any deficiencies or failures that could lead to such accidents. This includes being aware of and communicating safety shortfalls.
- Ensure prompt attendance to all allocated tasks to minimise turnaround time (TAT) and prevent operational delays or disruptions. Communicate any aircraft, component, or structural defects found to the Supervisor or Engineer, and provide clear handover information during shift changes.
- Perform testing, verification, servicing, and support for overhaul, repair, refurbishment, inspection, and calibration tasks required as per special procedures and respective workshop manuals.
Wheel and Brake Shop:
- Working knowledge of specialised procedures used in the Wheel & Brake shop, including plastic media blasting, shot peening, and paint touch-up.
- Ability to operate motorised equipment such as lifters and overhead cranes within the shop floor.
Machinist Workshop:
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including understanding symbols, flags, general notes, and identifying part locations.
- Basic knowledge of CAD/CAM software such as AutoCAD and Mastercam.
- Familiarity with developing tooling for in-situ machining and understanding material machinability, tool holding, and cutter selection.
- Hands-on experience operating CNC milling machines as well as conventional machines such as lathes, milling, and drilling machines.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), including limits, fits, and clearances.
Welder Workshop:
- Hands-on experience operating TIG and spot-welding machines, with proficiency in TIG welding various metals such as steel, titanium, nickel, and aluminium alloys.
- Ability to determine welding requirements based on material characteristics and basic knowledge of weld quality assessment and inspection techniques.
Plater Workshop:
- Ability to prepare and monitor plating parameters, including chemical additions, and knowledge of chemical preparation and mixing for processes such as etching, passivation, anodising, chromate plating, and effluent treatment.
- Expertise in electroplating processes, including sulfuric and chromic acid anodising on aluminium parts, gold and nickel plating on metallic and plastic components, cadmium tank plating for aircraft parts, and passivation of stainless steel.
CAL Workshop:
- Hold a minimum of four calibration/servicing authorisations and perform calibrations within scope, including operating specialised equipment, conducting intermediate checks, preventive maintenance, and signing test, verification, and calibration reports as an authorised performer.
- Maintain environmental monitoring records and perform quality-related activities as directed by the Technical Manager (TM) or Lab In-Charge.
Hydraulic Workshop:
- Ability to perform repairs in accordance with SPM/CMM and knowledge of hydraulic test bench operation for component testing, fault isolation, and troubleshooting.
Pneumatic Workshop:
- Understand the function and operation of aircraft pneumatic components, including valves, starters, PDUs, and ACMs and possess knowledge of pneumatic test bench operation for component testing, fault isolation, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to perform repairs in accordance with SPM/CMM and follow the pneumatic component
- maintenance process.
Desired Candidate Profile
To be considered for this role, you should meet the below requirements:
- Degree in Engineering in Aeronautical, Mechanical, Avionics, Electronics, or Technical Engineering or Aircraft Maintenance Engineering License or Engineering Apprenticeship.
- Experience of five years or more.
- Post-qualification experience in the aviation field with an engineering background, including at least 2 years in a workshop environment (e.g., Weight & Balance, Avionics, Cabin, Structures, Calibration, Hydraulic, Pneumatic, Fuel & Oil, Landing Gear).
- Understand the functions, processes, and operational requirements of the assigned workshop, including familiarity with standard and specialised tools, equipment, and safety practices.
- Be fully conversant with aviation regulations and international standards for aircraft maintenance, and possess knowledge of industrial safety practices applicable across relevant workshop operations.
