Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Representative, you lead the Advocacy and Communications section at UNICEF Iraq and supervise two roles: the Communication Officer (NO 2) and the Communication Associate (GS 6).

As the Advocacy and Communication Specialist, you are accountable for coordinating, networking, implementing, and monitoring public advocacy strategies and associated products and activities on an ongoing basis with public audiences. Your objective is to promote awareness, understanding, support, and respect for children s and women s rights, and to build support for UNICEF s mission. All of this work is geared toward achieving advocacy impact in alignment with programme outcomes and the overall advocacy and communication priorities in the country office, and in coordination with regional and global communication and advocacy priorities.

Desired Candidate Profile

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Advanced university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or Social Science.
  • Work Experience: At least five (5) years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in advocacy and communications is required. Proven experience in managing teams is a requirement. Proven track record in developing practical strategy, compelling and innovative approach to draw attention is required.
  • Skills: Supervision, Media Relations, International developement, Strategical thinking.
  • Language Requirements: Both English and Arabic - Proficient/Fluent level is required.

Desirables:

  • Language: Knowledge of another official UN language (Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
  • Emergency, Advocacy, Networking, Build communicatio alliances, Media, Overall UN experience considered as desirables.
  • Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts.
